Local councillors have been tasked to come up with a list of improvements needed at Tenby Railway Station.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members that he’d received correspondence from Sinéad Henehan, Pembrokeshire County Council’s community safety, poverty and regeneration manager, who had been in touch with Transport for Wales looking for suggestions on Railway Station improvements across the county.
“We are currently undertaking station audits across all stations in Wales and Borders, this work is to be completed by end of March, after which time we will develop our plans for station improvements,” wrote Hugh Evans, stakeholder liaison manager for Transport for Wales.
“As a part of our data gathering exercise, we were wondering if you have any views/ideas on how the stations within your area could be improved?
“We are looking at all areas of the station, including - platforms, station buildings, car parking, accessibility, safety, communication, information etc
“I cannot guarantee that we can do all improvements, but if stakeholders put in requests there is a better chance of them being done,” he added.
The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, suggested that straight away, they look at the sidings at the station where the old trains used to stay.
“That area needs sorting out and tidying up, all the way down,” she said, with her colleague the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, agreeing, and stating that drainage issues also needed drastically looking at.
The Mayor said that she was happy to conduct a site visit at the station with anyone else who could attend on Saturday morning, so they could make a list of improvements that needed carrying out.
