A project to set up a ‘Town Walls Preservation Trust’ for Tenby has been set in motion.
Local county councillor Michael Williams, and former town councillor and Mayor, Mrs. Caroline Thomas recently raised the matter again, by touting to the town council and Tenby Civic Society, if they would consider the possibility of setting up a ‘Tenby Town Walls Preservation Trust’ to ensure the upkeep of the town’s listed buildings and historic monuments.
One of the newest members of the town council Clr. Viv Perry told his colleagues her would be happy to take the reins of such a project, and councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night were presented with an outline of objectives drawn up to consider for such a project.
“The major scope of this project is to concentrate on conservation, preservation of the tourist features showing Tenby cosmetically attractive for locals and visitors alike,” explained Clr. Perry in his report.
Clr. Perry stated that it was essential to engaged and work in partnership with a wide range of organisations such as Pembrokeshire County Council, The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Cadw, and other local support groups on the project.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall told his colleagues that it would be good to discuss the objectives set out in the project with the ‘regeneration group’ hosting a meeting on the matter in the near future.
“There is a huge amount of knowledge in this town on the historic walls, and we need to harness this altogether, and focus on how to set up a trust,” he said.
Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter offered her thanks to Clr. Perry on his ‘in depth’ report, stating that she looked forward to the project moving along.
