Tenby could be set to have a continental counterpart.
Following a recent trip to Gibraltar by Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, and her colleague, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, the British overseas territory, which is located near the southernmost tip of the Iberian peninsula and shares a border with Spain, has expressed an interest in twinning with the Pembrokeshire seaside town.
"We spoke to the Mayor and they are very keen to twin with Tenby, " explained Clr. Mrs. Lane at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council. "Our town has a long association with Gibraltar and a great affinity with the Royal Artillery.
"We were impressed with certain aspects that we share and the fact that it is a walled town too. I also think that it would be very good for Tenby's schools to twin with such a place and the children could learn about the many historic battles that have taken place," added Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown felt that it was a "brilliant idea" and that it would be very beneficial for Tenby's tourism.
Councillors agreed in principle to look at the prospect of the twinning.
