The final of the Dyfed Junior Swimming League was held recently at Pembroke Leisure Centre. The teams that made the A final were Carmarthen, Pembroke, Haverfordwest and Tenby. Tenby were slightly ahead on points after the first two rounds, but going into the final, everyone started with a level scorecard. After the first 10 events, Tenby were joint leaders with Carmarthen, but this was to change several times throughout the gala. With 10 events to go, Carmarthen were leading by four points, so the Tenby youngsters knew they had to give everything in the last relay events. Due to illness, one of the eight years and under boys had had to drop out at the last minute, so young Billy Truman, who is only five-years-old, but already an excellent swimmer, stepped into the breach. In his second swim, he brought the eight year and under boys' relay team home to a shock win over Carmarthen and this was the turning point. Tenby went on to win the last three events in front of a now standing crowd to retain the title. As just rewards, young Billy and his sister Hari, the youngest girl in the team, proudly collected the trophy for Tenby.
