Last Friday night, Tenby Swifts held their presentation evening at Folly Farm. There was a record attendance for a junior presentation of 542 attending the Follies Theatre. The compere for the evening was Rachel Treadaway-Williams from the BBC Wales X-Ray programme.

Chairman of the Swifts Chris Williams opened by thanking Chris Ebsworth, of Folly Farm, for providing a superb venue and also laying on free amusements at the park for all the families of the Swifts before the presentation.

Chris also welcomed all invited sponsors and guests and especially all the coaches and team managers who have made the Swifts such a success this year.

The main guest for the evening was local hero James Merriman who has represented Wales at Under 18 level and captained the successful Under 21 Grand Slam winning side of 2006. Recently, James represented Wales at Senior level at the 7s World Cup in Dubai where the team won the tournament with James playing an active role during the event.

Also on stage were two big screens displaying photos taken throughout the year. Thanks go to Steve Swales and Ross Grieve for arranging this and their continued support.

The presentation started with the Under 7s all the way up to the Under 16s coming up to the stage to receive their medals.

Cheryl Burrows, mother of the late Daniel Burrows, then came on to the stage to present the Daniel Burrows Award, Daniel was extremely enthusiastic about sport, sadly his illness prevented him from achieving his goals. This award was to recognise a similar kind of enthusiasm and who has been invaluable in supporting his teammates. This was won by Jacob Weakley of the Under 14s.

Next was the Ollie Morgan Award which was presented by his father Richard. Ollie was an outstanding individual player, but also a highly regarded team player. This award was to recognise a team that showed immense team spirit amongst the boys. The winners were the Under 9s. Their record this season was that they played 31 games, winning 30 and only losing one. They also played in two mini tournaments, winning at Tenby and runners-up at Neyland. Highlight of the season was going to Carmarthen Quins and beating them on their own patch by five tries to nil.

The award for clubman of the year was presented to Billy Swales in recognition of commitment to the Swifts by not missing single game following his grandson, William Swales (captain of the Under 9s) and also his invaluable help in so many jobs for the Swifts, which included painting the changing rooms, putting up fences to name a few. He is highly regarded amongst the Swifts committee.

The other presentations on the night were players' player awards which were presented by Kenny Davies, WRU development officer for Pembrokeshire and Scarlets: Under 7s - Alex Wainwright, Under 8s - Ryan Scourfield, Under 9s - Harri Williams (who also won player-of-the-tournament at Neyland), Under 9s (B) - Dylan Scotcher, Under 10s - Thomas Murphy, Under 11s - Adam Davidson, Under 12s - James Brace, Under 13s - Bronzac Burnley, Under 14s - Miller Williams, Under 15s - Rob Luly, Under 16s - Nick Jones.

The chairman's award was to recognise an outstanding ability of all the age groups. Winner was Ryan Conbeer (Under 10s). Ryan is an outstanding talent who has an incredible turn of pace and his commitment at the tackle area is fearless for such a young boy. Ryan has also represented the county at Under 11s playing up a year.

The Swifts also presented a signed Cardiff Blues shirt to Chris Ebsworth, managing director at Folly Farm, for his continued support and support as being main sponsor of the Tenby Swifts.

John Handicott presented Ollie Morgan's number 10 shirt, signed by the Griffiths Cup winning Tenby team 2006, to his father Richard. The shirt was of great significance as it was the last time Ollie wore it before his untimely death in 2007.

All the coaches, committee and guests enjoyed a magnificent buffet laid on by Folly Farm after the presentation in the restaurant. The Swifts would also like to thank the following sponsors for their continued support: FB Mason, Big Brums, Belvedere Residential Home, ISEA Canvas Art, Tenby Glass, Scourfields Quarry, Patel's Chemist, Nixon Builders, Powells Cottage Holidays, Rowston Caravan Park, Ashmole and Co, Frosts Hardware, Buccaneer Inn, Saundersfoot Festivities, Martin Hurlow, Easy-Fit Garage, Pembrokeshire Financial Services, Strathmore Hotel, Tenby Round Table, Peter Owen Sports, Evergreen Nomads, Ideal Stelrad and Lowless and Lowless.
