The Hywel Dda health board have said that they hope that problems experienced at Tenby Surgery recently are 'temporary'. Tenby county councillor Michael Williams blasted the county's health service last week and said that people in the area have been lied to for 25 years. "We have gone from a fully functional cottage hospital to a MIU, which in my view, despite costing over £4m, was designed to fail, to a GP service that appears to be at the point of collapse," Clr. Williams told members of Tenby Town Council, while MP Simon Hart has also said that accessing services at Tenby Surgery is now at a 'critical stage'. A university health board spokesperson responded this week by stating: "We are aware of the challenges currently being faced by the GP practice in Tenby. "As an independent contractor, the responsibility lies with the practice for ensuring continuous delivery of services but, recognising the importance of this service to the local population, we have met several times with the practice to explore opportunities to provide clinical staff and support the practice to deliver their General Medical Services contract. "We will continuously monitor the delivery of services and continue to support the practice to overcome what is hoped to be a temporary situation," they added.
