Remembrance services have taken place around the UK to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Battle of the Somme.
It follows a nationwide two-minute silence at 07.28 BST that marked the moment on July 1, 1916 when the battle began.
The Battle of the Somme, one of World War One’s bloodiest, was fought in northern France and lasted five months, with the British suffering almost 60,000 casualties on the first day alone.
A service at Tenby’s War Memorial saw the town’s Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall lay a wreath to mark the occasion, whilst 92-year-old D-Day veteran Gordon Prime, of Jameston, was also in attendance with his father’s medals from WWI including one for the Battle of the Somme, joined by representatives from the Royal British Legion.
