TENBY UTD 2nds 28 pts.

CARDIGAN 2nds 15

Tenby United Seconds welcomed Cardigan's second side to Heywood Lane for this eagerly awaited league clash on Saturday.

From the kick-off, Cardigan came straight at Tenby, playing some attractive rugby considering the poor weather conditions, and it was only through some good stern defence from the homeside that the visitors were held out.

The away team's persistent pressure resulted in mistakes being made by the Seasiders and a penalty saw Cardigan go three-nil up.

This shook Tenby back to life and soon their pack got on top with some solid scrimmaging and forward, meaning that an excellent try by Sam Smith was the only try of the first half which was successfully converted by Delwyn Brace.

It's unsure what was said at half-time by Faddy and his backroom staff to the team, but whatever it was seemed to work as Tenby came out after the interval like men possessed, with front rowers Mark Brace, Nick Griffiths and Damian Hanlon standing out against a solid and experienced Cardigan front three.

Tries from Sam Smith, Mike Evans and Justin Richards, were all converted by Brace's trusty right foot and Tenby grounded out a superb hard-fought win through hard-work from all 15 men.

A special mention must go to veteran centre Simon Rossiter who must be pushing for a first team place tomorrow (Saturday) at home to Cwmgorse.

After this performance from the Seconds, there is sure to be some headaches when it comes to selection for the next games for the 1st XV and 2nd XV, with many players catching the eye of the selectors.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Tenby Seconds travel to Haverfordwest to play a rearranged league fixture.

Tenby fielded: Gareth Nock, Matt Broadhurst, Simon Rossiter, Ratu, Jimmy Davies, Delwyn Brace, Gethin Williams, Justin Richards, Mike Evans, Sam Smith, Ifan Davies, Rob Thomas (capt.), Damian Hanlon, Nick Griffiths, Mark Brace. Replacements: Jonsey Lewis, Geoff Martin, Craig McGee, Matt Miller, Gareth Merriman and Tony Burns.
