Supporters of events staged by the Tenby branch of Christian Aid raised a record £4,826 during 2007, the local committee confirmed this week. The events included a Christian Aid lunch at St. Johns Church and a special concert, with Tenby Male Voice Choir in St. Mary's Church, together with bumper coffee mornings at the Salvation Army, St. Johns and St. Mary's. Sue Bonser, local treasurer, said: "This beats Christian Aid's previous year's total by a wide margin. The help given by Tenby people to starving populations in the Third World is something they can be really proud of. "The  total of nearly £5,000 is a hefty amount of money in Pembrokeshre, but it becomes a massive sum in Africa and other places where poverty is rife. There's no doubt this generous contribution will save the lives of many children and adults," she added.  Tenby Christian Aid committee is now drawing up plans for this year. Concerts, frugal Lent luncheons, coffee mornings and card sales are already arranged. Anyone who would like to help at various events during the year or make a donation, is asked to kindly contact Malcolm Stacey on 01834 843485.
