This week's Tenby Sailing Club report is only a brief one, as GP14 has been heavily involved in the Gul RS200 Championships which have been hosted by the club. Some 130 boats, one of the largest fleets ever to visit Tenby, have been contesting the championships and have provided a spectacular sight in the bay. Although the Tenby club has hosted a number of national events over the years, this is the first time the Gul RS200s (a two-person dinghy equipped with an asymmetric spinnaker) have visited the town. But according to a spokesman on Tuesday afternoon, all was "going very well, with plenty of wind to keep them happy - almost too much." In fact, during the week, conditions were mostly bright and sunny, but the wind averaged 23 knots and at times gusted to as much as 26 and 27 knots. Nevertheless, before the start of proceedings on Wednesday morning, six races had been completed, with a further four scheduled to take place before the end of the event. There was also a treat in store for competitors on Tuesday evening, as they were able to sample the exquisite delights of the universally-acclaimed Terry Evans barbecue. Hope they were fit for sailing next day! A full report on the event - the championships that is - will appear in next week's issue. Meanwhile, things return to some normality next week, with the usual club racing on Sunday morning and junior sailing on Wednesday evening - and don't forget, the latter followed by the mouth- watering Terry Evans barbecue.
