Sunday's turnout was again most encouraging. Things got very close at one time with dire consequences. A Wayfarer had a close encounter with Rolly Squibbs's Redwing which resulted in the Redwing being holed. Such is competitiveness of the racing. Despite this unfortunate event, Rolly still went on to win the race. The final 1-2-3 was as follows: 1. Rolly Squibbs and Helen Williams in a Redwing; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Nathan Spiller in a Laser Vortex. Racing as usual this Sunday.

DARTS

Our first match against the Three Mariners proved to be a rude awakening. We were firmly put in our place by a very strong side. So, played one, lost one. Last Friday, we played the Basscatchers, losing by the narrowest of margins. So far then - played two, lost two. Nothing new here, I hear the masses utter, but captain Terry Evans was most encouraged by the performance against the Basscatchers. As usual, our nemesis is the inability to get that elusive final double. This evening we are home - participating members please note.

NEWSLETTER

A newsletter has been circulated to all members. It contains details of events on the sailing front and of the social scene. It also contains the menus for the annual dinner and prize-giving which will be held on Friday, November 18, at the Fourcroft. Would members who intend to participate please fill in the form included in the newsletter and return it to Mike Stace. If last year's dinner is anything to go by, it promises to be a great evening. The club annual general meeting will take place on Saturday, November 19, at 7 pm. This is an opportunity for members to have an input into club affairs and its future.

QUIZ EVENING

The quiz evening was a most enjoyable one. The ravenous masses were treated to good basic grub prepared by Terry Evans, who then went on to quiz the same masses. The quiz consisted of mainly general knowledge questions with a few specialist rounds, including mathematics! The final scores were very close with the winning team, captained by Judy Simpson, taking the top spot. There will be more quizzes in the near future, watch this space.

WINTER JOBS

The winter period is an ideal time to carry out essential maintenance work on the club boats. As usual, this is dependent on willing volunteers. So the annual plea - if you can offer any sort of contribution let us know. Thanks in anticipation!
