Last Wednesday saw the usual band of enthusiastic trainees put through their paces. Some of the more advanced trainees now also attend a Sunday afternoon race training session run by Ed Dashfield, a very experienced sailor, who has represented Wales on several occasions.

Thanks to Ed some of these trainees now take part in the Sunday morning club racing.

Wednesday's race was keenly contested, with the Redwings again leading the way. The final results were: 1. Rolly Squibbs and Jane Brace (Redwing); 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton (Redwing); 3. Max Jones (470).

Max's performance was no mean feat as the 470 is difficult enough to handle with the usual two sailors aboard.

Sunday's very large turnout was delighted when the wind picked up to a force 2/3 from the initial whimper of a breeze at the time of launching. This suited the divine GP14 who had a new crew aboard, sailing on the sea for the first time having done all her sailing on a lake and river. It was delightful to see six Redwings taking part, all of which had female crews, as well as the feared divine GP14 - is this a record?

The race was very keenly contested, with the lead changing hands on several occasions. Eventually, the Redwings reigned supreme, which is becoming a habit! The divine GP14 could not split them on this occasion (much to the disappointment of all its fans nationwide), but Nathan Spiller prevented a complete Redwing domination.

The final results were as follows: 1. Rolly Squibbs and Jane Brace (Redwing); 2. Bill Dowell and Nan D'Ortez (Redwing); 3. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton (Redwing); 4. Nathan Spiller (Vortex).

Many thanks to race officer Ed Dashfield for his efforts during the day.

As mentioned last week, the Tenby contingent taking part in the Saundersfoot Cruiser Weekend did very well, with the final results being: 1. Tedeja (helmed by John Griffiths); 2. Slipstream (Blake Shaw); 3. Amphora (Billy Stubbs); 4. Aries (Steve Lewis).

Again, many thanks to Saundersfoot for a delightful weekend.

In two weeks time the club is hosting the Merlin Rockets National Championships. This is a prestigious event which requires a great deal of organisation. Any member who is able to help should contact Blake Shaw on 842535. We look forward to hearing from you.
