A large turnout enjoyed excellent sailing conditions on Sunday. Race officers Terry Evans and Blake Shaw set a course to suit the conditions using the recently laid Monkstone, Eastern and Waterwynch marks. The race was closely contested, with the Redwings taking the honours. The final one-two-three was:
1. Rolly Squibbs and Jonathan Lewis in a Redwing; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Ed Dashfield and Geoff Martin in a RS400.
The Wednesday sail training sessions are proving popular. Any youngsters interested in learning to sail should contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further details.
This weekend the club's is hosting the Laser and Laser Radial world qualifiers. A large number of boats are expected which means the organisation requires a great deal of time and commitment from members. Any member who can help should contact Blake Shaw on 842535.
On the weekend of May 18, 19 and 20, the club is holding its annual 'come and try' event. Anyone interested in having a go at sailing is welcome - again contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further details. This is always a popular weekend, so please book early to secure a place.
Last Saturday, the club tested members of Saundersfoot Sailing Club. The evening was a great success, with commodore, Terry Evans, acting as MC. Thanks to Sheila Spiller and Ann Hutchings for putting on a lovely buffet.
We are invited for a social evening at Saundersfoot Sailing Club on May 12 - members please note.
The social committee have met and formatted a social programme for the next few weeks. The salient dates follows:
Saturday, May 19 - coffee morning; Saturday, June 2 - jazz evening (subject to confirmation); Saturday, June 9 - Irish dancing demonstration and food; Saturday, June 16 - coffee morning and afternoon cream teas; Saturday, June 23 - passage race and BBQ; Saturday, June 7 - regatta and BBQ; Saturday, June 21 - BBQ; Saturday, June 28 - coffee morning.
The club, especially in the summer season, is a superb venue for wiling away a few spare minutes. So why not support the coffee mornings etc. when you can meet with friends and 'put the world to rights' over a cup of coffee in convivial surroundings. Finally, may I remind members that annual subscriptions are now very overdue. Contact membership secretary, Sheila Spiller, on 845452 for further details.
