Pembrokeshire County Council have unveiled a new litter collection vehicle for Tenby's walled town.

Council chairman, Clr. Mickey Folland, helped demonstrate the prototype of the battery-powered vehicle, which will do the daily litter run inside the walled town during the eight-week pedestrianisation period.

During its first trial run, the buggy coped remarkably well with its task and all concerned are confident that the new addition will be a success.

Tenby is the first town in West Wales to use such a vehicle as part of its refuse service and the finished version - supplied by R. S. Bird Ltd., of Cowbridge, will be modified slightly to cope with the needs of the walled town area.

The new buggy will start its service on July 7, the day pedestrianisation begins, and will run throughout the eight weeks, until normal service resumes post-pedestrianisation.

Councillors also say that in exceptional circumstances, the buggy can be adapted to make deliveries when no other solution can be sought.
