Statement from Chris Fox - Regional Commercial Sales Director at Wales and The Borders News Media Limited...

“Regarding this week’s Reform wrap on the Tenby Observer. Just to clarify the situation, these are 'paid for' messages from political parties, clearly marked as such, and do not in any way represent the views of the publisher or the editorial team.

“They follow political advertising guidelines, as set out by the Electoral Commission and the opportunity is available to all standing parties and independents to use our brands.

“Indeed, similar wraps from the Conservative and Labour parties have appeared this week on publications across our portfolio.

All our publications are politically unbiased, and we remain politically agnostic preferring to allow our readers to make up their minds as to where they cast their vote.

“Advertising has never and will never influence editorial integrity. That said, we would rather this messaging was appearing in regulated, professional newspapers rather than on social media platforms such as Facebook where people lack any context.

“I’m sorry that on this occasion you disagree with the decision to run this advert but hope you can understand the reasons behind it - ones which ultimately will help The Observer to continue with its long history of providing local, community-based news to the area.

“Yours sincerely, Chris Fox - Regional Commercial Sales Director Wales and The Borders News Media Limited.”
