Improvements to the facade of Tenby Market have been called for.

The matter was raised at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council by Clr. Mrs. Sarah Williams, who told her colleagues that the frontage of the building was much in need of some TLC.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s website proudly portrays Tenby as having the ‘oldest market in use’ in the county - tracing its existence back as far as 1290 when the first Charter was granted.

“The website states that it is still on the original site within a ‘charming grade two listed building’ which retains many if its original features and includes a large mural showing history of Tenby,” continued Clr. Mrs. Williams, explaining that whilst she was aware that PCC faced challenges, she felt that the facade of the market was in need of some urgent TLC.

“The weeds need pulling out of areas including the guttering, the doors need painting, and the whole frontage could do with a gentle power wash,” she suggested, with her colleague Clr. Paul Rapi agreeing.

“The roof is leaking upstairs, too, and PCC have not spent any money on it for some time. If they’re not careful, it will fall into such disrepair that they won’t be able to do anything with it, so we need to give PCC a nudge,” he continued.

“They did not so long ago try to hand it over to us,” added the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who agreed that a letter should go to PCC on the matter.
