Marimba player, William Edwards from Tenby will be making his television debut on Monday on ITV Wales in a 'will he, won't he' programme about young musicians battling it out for a place in this year's Texaco Young Musician of Wales Final. The talented 15-year-old musician impressed the panel of judges at the preliminary round in October last year to be selected as one of just 24 young musicians across Wales to be given the opportunity to perform at the regional rounds. The ITV Wales programme, to be screened on Monday at 11 pm, will feature William playing the marimba at the regional round at Trinity College, Carmarthen, where he faces stiff competition from five other young talented musicians. However, viewers will not know until the end of programme two, to be broadcast on Monday, March 12, whether William has been selected as one of the lucky five finalists. A series of four programmes - March 5 and 12, April 2 and 9 - will be aired on ITV Wales at 11 pm about the Texaco Young Musician of Wales competition, which will follow the regional finalists through to the announcement of the winner. The competition winner will receive £1,000 and the Texaco Young Musician of Wales trophy. Second and third placed finalists will receive £750 and £500, respectively, and the two other finalists £250 each. Provided they are in Wales, the music departments at each of the finalists' schools will also receive a donation equal to that won by the individual. The finalists will also have the opportunity to play with the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra as part of their prize. Tickets to the final are £10 or £8 for concession and are available from the Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900.
