Recently married at Itchenor Church, Chichester, West Sussex, were Mr. Justin Birt and Miss Jane Everett Connors.

The groom is the son of Mr. Charles Birt, of Southcliffe Lodge, St. Julian Street, Tenby, while the bride is the daughter of John and Shirley Powell, of Pooh Corner, Westlands, Birdham, Chichester, West Sussex

Given away by her father, the bride wore a pale blue silk dupion dress, which was a replica of her grandmother's 21st birthday dress from 1910, made by Vee Davis, a friend from Cheltenham.

Matron-of-honour was Mrs. Sally Warley from Plymouth, the bride's best friend and a former crew member from the 1976 Transatlantic Tall Ships all- girl crew, of which they were both part. Also maid- of-honour was the bride's god-daughter, Miss Haydtha Hallsdotter, from Iceland, the daughter of another fellow crew member from 1976.

They wore petrol blue silk dupion strapless dresses in a ballgown design, with organza shruggs scattered with sparkles.

Best man was Nigel Hadley (groom's best friend), while the ushers were John and Hayden Jackson, James Irish, Kevin Warley, Malcolm Coomber, Ian Simpson and Gordon Pill. The wedding ceremony was conducted by Rev. John Williams, while organist was Mr. Ian Stearn.

Following the ceremony, a marquee reception was held at Chichester Yacht Club, where the bride and groom arrived by water on a Fairey Swordsman 'Tireur', driven and owned by Simon Hartwell. The couple will be spending their honeymoon on the Isle of Wight and making their future home at Bracklesham Bay on the coast near Chichester.
