Some of the most popular songs which the choir performs are those from well known musicals or movies. There are about 10 such songs in the current choir repertoire. We don't sing them all in every concert but in a concert season a number of them will feature at some time or other.
At the moment, perhaps the most popular song in this category is 'Bring Him Home' from Les Miserables as a musical and in the recent film. You can hear this on Youtube if you just put 'Tenby Male Choir Bring Him Home Youtube' into a search engine or go to our website (see below) for a direct link. It's not a bad recording, but of course you'll enjoy it more at a live performance.
Apart from this, you might hear any of the following at one of our concerts.
The fast and furious 'Rhythm of Life' from Sweet Charity, 'Climb Every Mountain' from The Sound Of Music. (There is always a chance for the audience to join in on this one), the very moving and powerful 'Anthem' from Chess a really good song for a male voice choir.
We haven't yet featured 'Bui Doi' from Miss Saigon this season, but it will be coming up soon and is bound to be a great hit with the audience. Our compere Dave Blackmore performs an emotional and very moving solo in this and it's not to be missed.
Two of our songs from popular films are 'She' which featured in Notting Hill and 'Unchained Melody' from the film Ghost.
And what about the popular 'You'll Never Walk Alone' from Carousel, 'The Impossible Dream' from Man of Le Mancha and 'You Make Me Feel So Young' from Three Little Girls in Blue. All great songs.
I think this shows the variety and breadth of the repertoire we sing when you take into account that these are only the ones from musicals and movies, but on any night you will also hear passionate songs in Welsh and other languages and stirring hymns.
Having whetted your appetite, I am afraid you may have to wait a week or two for a chance to hear these as our next formal concert is not until June 20 when we will be singing at the Giltar Hotel. This is one of a couple of concerts we put on for the guests at the Giltar but, subject to numbers on the night, the management tell me non-residents are also welcome. It is an opportunity to come along for a free concert. So there you are gents a chance to treat your loved one without breaking the bank! We start singing at about 8 pm.
Following the 'free' concert theme, another thing the choir does at this time of year, subject to the weather permitting is to sing down at the harbour on Thursday evenings at 8 pm. On a nice evening, this is a very pleasant way to spend an hour or so with the stunning backdrop of the sea, beach and harbour.
Don't forget that new members are always welcome to come along and meet us on Tuesday or Thursday evenings at the County Club on The Croft or ask about the choir anywhere we are performing. There is also a web site http://www.tenbymalechoir.org">www.tenbymalechoir.org and a Facebook account (just Google Tenby Male Choir Facebook) or you can get more information on anything about the choir on (01834) 813198.
