Tenby Youth, sponsored by PRL Plant Hire, continued their good form of late with a thoroughly convincing win over local rivals Pembroke Dock at Heywood Lane. Tenby kicked off and straightaway gained possession and put pressure on the visitors' defence. As is becoming the norm, Alex Jenkins opened the scoring after only 10 minutes, when hooker Paul Woods won a scrum against the head, allowing Alex to pick up from the base of the scrum and drive his way over the line. This set the mood for the rest of what turned out to be a one-sided half. Dan Colley was next to score and then the flood-gates really opened. Within the next 10 minutes, a rampant Tenby added a quickfire 24 points though tries from Paul Woods, Luke Dedman, Dan Colley again and Nick Drewett, in his first game back from injury. This bout of scoring brought the interval score to 34-0 to the home side, with the visitors very glad to hear the half-time whistle. With the game won, half-time saw the introduction of several impact players, such as Jonah Lewis in the centre replacing Dave Otten (coming off after another solid performance), Craig McGhee in the second row, Jamie Marden, Mike Cockburn and the explosive Gary Smedley. Pembroke Dock came out for the second half more determined and attempted to make Tenby work hard for their victory. The Seasiders were forced to defend for long periods and it was through good, well-organised defence that they prevented Pembroke Dock from crossing the try line and registering any reward for all their attacking efforts. With the defence displaying what was needed for the majority of the half, it was time to switch back into attack mode, but it wasn't until the final 10 minutes that Tenby once again started to score freely. Tries came from fullback James Davies, who had an excellent all round game, and Colley (two to bring his match total to four), one of which was an excellent solo effort from his own half - chipping the ball over defenders and running round would- be tacklers to score in the corner. After a conversion from the touchline, Steve Handicott called it a day with goal-kicking and handed over to the reliable boot of Jonah Lewis, who slotted it over from a difficult angle with ease - obviously his new boots are doing the job. This final flourish took the final score to 53-0 and another excellent Saturday afternoon's work and just what was needed for the next home encounter against the current top of the table club, Pembroke RFC, tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 2.30 pm at The Clicketts. Support very welcome.
