Tenby Ladies rugby team did the double over counterparts Aberystwyth on Sunday. After an arduous journey, the Tenby team lined up to face their opponents in brilliant sunshine.
From the kick-off, the visitors went on the attack, forcing Aber Ladies back into their own 22. The home side tackled hard and prevented Tenby from crossing the line, until flanker Clare Taylor pounced on a stray ball to open the scoring.
Tenby capitalised on these early points and continued to pile on the pressure. Centre Becky Stroud, home from university, showed what a strong player she has become, when after continuous rucking she ran free with the ball and brushed aside the two Aber defenders and scored a try which boosted Tenby's confidence.
Tenby continued to camp in the opposition's half, putting pressure on them from both scrums and open play. Wing Zoe Walsh got her long-awaited first try in Tenby colours after a move from the back of the scrum involving number eight Ceire Merrison and scrum-half Sue Naul.
New young wing Catrin Boulton had an impressive game, taking on the opposition and setting up a try for centre Lucy Berry, which was converted by Lisa Jones, who followed with a fine run and try of her own, which she also converted.
The game became even more one-sided when Sian Worrall got a well deserved try after some good support play by the forwards. This gave Tenby an impressive half-time score of 34-0.
After the turnaround, Aberystwyth managed to get out of their own half as Tenby eased off the pedal. However, more tries came for the visitors when, after solid scrummaging, the ball was spun wide and after looping round, Lucy Berry sprinted down the wing and scored under the posts, enabling Lisa Jones to convert.
Tenby's final try came after Clare Taylor's effort was held up after breathtaking running from prop Natalie Bowen. Tenby won the resulting five-metre scrum, which allowed Ceire Merrison to pick up and cross in the corner, giving Tenby an impressive 46-0 victory.
Jemma Scourfield made her debut and contributed to an all-round good performance.
Tenby face a tougher prospect this Sunday at home to Carmarthen. Kick-off 2.30 pm. All support will be welcome.
