A below-strength Tenby Ladies hockey team was held to a 0-0 draw by Pembroke Ladies at Milford on a bitterly cold Sunday morning. The game was always going to be a tough one, with both sides looking for a win. What started promisingly turned out to be a drab affair as there were very few opportunities on goal. Both teams were unable to get any decent moves going and much of the play was confined to the midfield.
Pembroke had the better of the first-half with a couple of shots on goal, but the Tenby defence of Miriam Brown, Michelle Johns, Jean Campbell and Gill Lewis held fast, with 'keeper Annie Lindsell largely untroubled.
One outstanding solo effort by Lucy Higgon, who picked up the ball on the halfway line and dribbled past several Pembroke players, was well saved by the Pembroke 'keeper.
There was also some neat interplay between Sam Nicholas and Miriam Brown on the left-wing, but they too were unable to penetrate the steadfast Pembroke defence.
Tenby played a much more organised second-half, with good understanding between Mandy Lewis, Kate Morris and Yvonne Izzard, but were still unable to find a breakthrough.
Late in the half, Nicola Lewis and Wendy Lewis were utilised on the left-wing in place of Sam Nicholas.
The final result of 0-0 was disappointing, but fair.
The match ball was sponsored by Frank B. Mason.
