Tenby Ladies Circle are delighted to have been chosen to spearhead this year's Area Circle project to raise money for the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice.

It is the second time in the last three years that TLC has led the area project, having previously raised £15,000 for the Paediatric Cardiac Unit at the Heath Hospital, Cardiff.

Based in the Vale of Glamorgan, Ty Hafan opened in January, 1999. It is intended to be a home from home, providing 10 children's bedrooms and eight family rooms, offering the only care and support of this type in the whole of Wales.

Set in tranquil surroundings, Ty Hafan provides for play and recreation as well as offering space for peace and reflection. Specialist facilities include a multi-sensory room, jacuzzi, music room and chapel, with numerous lounges providing a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

It will cost £1 million each year to maintain the services at the hospice, which are completely free to all families.

As this hospice is the only one dedicated to the care of terminally ill children in Wales, TLC has decided to support it. Each one of us knows someone who has suffered the grief of losing a child to illness and we can never know when it may affect us.

TLC have put together a packed schedule of fund-raising events to run throughout the year as they aim to raise a bumper amount for this most deserving of charities.

The fund got off to a flying start at the Cafe Culture weekend when they raised money through the sale of Welsh cakes - a TLC tradition.

Last Sunday, Circlers did their bit by kicking off their Walk 1,000 miles campaign. Any organisation is invited to walk one mile and gain sponsorship, with all proceeds going to the project. Further details can be obtained from chairman Dilys Jenkinson, 831326, or any Circler - don't be afraid to ask!

Other fund-raisers will include a Murder Mystery Night, Quiz Night, Fashion Show, Kids' Disco, and much much more.

Circler Janina Evans is in training to run the Tenby 10K race. She will be on the look-out for sponsors, so please give generously as all proceeds will go to the Ty Hafan appeal.

TLC will have a high profile throughout the year and have a range of Ty Hafan memorabilia for sale ranging from 75p upwards. These will be available throughout the coming months, including the Tenby Round Table summer events in August.

"The year ahead promises to be a full and exciting one and we hope to hand over a bumper cheque next spring," said a spokesperson.

"Please support our appeal as generously as you can, as your donations, no matter how small, could help a young child from our own area.

"If anyone feels able to assist our project in any way, either by a donation or supporting any of our events, please contact Dilys Jenkinson on 831326 or any Circler. Please help us to help a child."
