Tenby Under 9s 3 tries
Narberth 1
Tenby Folly Farmers made the short trip up to Narberth last Sunday and came away with a hard-fought win. This was what you would call a 'game of two halves'.
Tenby started brightly and were rewarded with a great try from Harri Williams after some clever play from Ben Millward.
Tenby were into their stride and were clearing out the ruck area, which meant an endless supply of quality ball which led to further tries scored by impressive Billy Kinnaer and Harvey Bowles.
Tenby continued to attack through Dominic Booth and Morgan Sparey, but credit to Narberth for some great defence on their line.
The second half started with Narberth on the attack and coming close on numerous occasions to opening their account.
With Narberth now competing at the contact area, the ball that did come Tenby's way was far too slow, which meant that they were always on the back foot during the second half.
Some superb last ditch tackling from Dylan Scotcher and Jamie Ebsworth kept the young Otters out.
Eventually, the Tenby line was broken after some good work from the Narberth forwards.
After a stern talking to, Tenby's Thomas Harding Jones made a neat little break to take the pressure off the team, which was supported by William Swales, who ran deep into the Narberth half, but not for the first time, Tenby managed to lose the ball at the breakdown through lack of support.
Credit to the young Folly Farmers for some great commitment in defence, which showed a lot of character while under pressure.
The final whistle went and both sets of supporters appreciated the commitment shown by the sides in a very exciting game.
Training is now at The Clicketts instead of the astroturf for the Under 9s. New players are most welcome, as two teams are run most weekends. PS. Neyland tournament is on Sunday - don't forget!
TENBY UNDER 10s
The Under 10s travelled to Milford Haven on Sunday for a round-robin involving Tenby, Milford and Whitland teams.
With 14 players and many spectators, it was a long wait in the cold for the first game to start.
Whitland 7 Tenby 3: The boys battled to gain possession realising the opposition were strong, but they fought and tried hard. There were a couple of injuries, noses, heads and feet, but still they carried on. The three tries were excellent, with two from Ryan Conbeer and one from Tom Murphy.
It was an uphill struggle literally, but Tenby gained some good experience and their teamwork was impeccable. Each boy gave 100 per cent.
At full-time, they listened to the team talk, they were disappointed, but ready for the next match against Milford.
Tenby 6 Milford 4: Tenby were a different team, focused and hungry for victory and ready to enjoy the game. Tom Murphy ran his heart out, scoring three tries, each one better than the last.
Ryan Conbeer had two tries which started from one end of the pitch to the other. Jac Waters had one try which saw him fly over the line with an excellent team-spirited pass from Murphy.
All the tries were accompanied by screams from the sidelines, but remember it takes teamwork to score a try and the first and last pass are equally important and the superb passing and tackling from all the boys was reflected in the final score.
Tom Rossiter had a fabulous run gaining ground to the try line and the referee blew up, it was a try in our eyes - well done Tom.
Thank you boys for a great day, thanks for the support and transport by the parents and Louise aka 'Camera Girl'.
Team captain first game - Ryan Conbeer; second game - Milo Stone.
Team: Milo Stone, Tom Rossiter, Jaime Rossiter, Ryan Conbeer, Jac Waters, Jack Broadhurst, Ben Palin, Elliott Moorhouse, Miles Davies, Tao Davies, Tom Murphy, George Amos, Ibo Erdogan, Lewis Gilpin.
Training is Thursdays 5-6 pm.
UNDER 13s
On Sunday, the Strathmore Hotel sponsored Under 13s travelled to Neyland for the annual tournament.
The first game saw Tenby beat Pembroke Dock Quins by five tries to one. Strong rucking provided a good platform to enable the pacey backs to exploit the gaps.
In the second game, Tenby kept up the momentum, this time against Fishguard. The boys were ruthless, forcing errors out of the Fishguard players. The score very quickly ran to five tries to nil.
This victory guaranteed that the boys had qualified for the semi-final. In the third pool game, Tenby went down fighting against current champions Crymych. The final score was 3 - 0 to Crymych.
After a break and some lunch, Tenby faced up to Cardigan in the semi-final. This was always going to be a humdinger as Tenby at this age group have never beaten Cardigan.
From the off, both sides went for it hammer and tongs, with Tenby having a try disallowed for a foot in touch (if only the fourth official had been there!). The game was end to end, with both sides defending like demons.
With barely a minute to go, Cardigan made a break and, although the runner was tackled just short of the line, the supporting runner was able to pick up and score.
Final score 1-0 to Cardigan. So, no final this year, but a good day of rugby and a great effort from all of the boys.
Thanks to the parents for their help in ferrying the boys to the event. Without your help, the boys would never be able to play any away games or tournaments. Thanks again!
Cheers for the official team photographer, Rob Lowe. See you all again on Sunday. Guess where? Cardigan, quarter-final of Pembs. Cup.
Tenby U15s 48 pts.
St. David's U15s 7
This first round cup match was played in brilliant sunshine at the Heywood Lane ground last Sunday morning.
From the kick-off, the first few minutes of the first half saw St. David's putting pressure on the Tenby defence. The boys withstood it all and when they made their first break into the St. David's half, scored the first of their eight tries.
From then on, Tenby took complete control of the game. They played as a well-drilled cohesive unit, putting into practice many of the training moves they have been trying out over recent weeks.
The communication was clear between the forwards and the back line, ensuring that everyone knew what was expected of them.
The forwards ensured that first, second and even third phase ball stayed in their possession, with some very strong rucking and determination to win the mauls.
The back line received quick ball which let them move it out wide to stretch the St. David's defence to its limits.
It has to be said that St. David's did scrummage very well, but Tenby's defensive line proved too strong for the visitors, with Tenby tackling hard at every opportunity.
Although Tenby played so very well as a team, credit must go to the try scorers of Greg C., Ben T., Chris 'BOF' (2) and Luke B. with a tally of three tries.
St. David's did score a late try, but it was all over by then.
An entertaining game by Tenby, which sees them through to the next round. If they get a home draw, it would be good to see a few more faces in the stand to cheer them on. Well done lads, keep it up.
