On Sunday morning, the Strathmore Hotel sponsored Under 13s played host to Fishguard. It had been a long break since their last game due to bad weather and also Christmas.

Tenby received the ball from kick-off and straightaway settled into the game plan of quick, powerful running from the forwards, which enabled scrum-half Kieran to unleash the pace of the Tenby backs.

Indeed, pace and power were the watchwords of the day. Tenby were hungrier for the ball and the forwards stole loose ball at every opportunity. Their direct running and support play was almost undefendable at times, particularly when taking into account the slippery conditions. This dominance up front let the free running backs cause havoc on the attack.

Needless to say, all this pressure was too much for Fishguard to bear. Tenby ran in nine tries scored by OTB (2), Jordan, Ryan, Shaun, Luke, Jonathon, Aaron and Bronzac. Rob kicked five conversions.

This was a first class performance, and a great platform for the rest of the season.

Tenby fielded: Luke, Tom S, Dan, Peter, Aled, Bronzac, Aaron, Ryan, Marcus, James, Tom P, Kieran, Rob, Elliott, Jordan, Shaun, OTB, Nathan, Rafe and Jonathon.

Thanks again to all the parents and grandparents for their continued support.

Tenby U9s 14 tries Fishguard nil

Tenby travelled to Fishguard last Sunday for their first game in five weeks.

Fishguard won the toss and ran deep into Tenby territory. With the defence holding firm, however, Ben Millward stole the opposition ball and passed out to Thomas Harding Jones, who raced clear and scored in the corner.

This was the start of things to come as the Tenby team were under instruction to keep the ball away from the bigger Fishguard forwards.

Tenby were playing a free flowing game and passing out of contact at every opportunity. Such was the work rate of the forwards William Swales (capt.), Jamie Ebsworth, Harvey Bowles, Morgan Sparey, Alex Probert and Billy Kinear, that not only did they tackle their hearts out, but they were always looking to offload in the tackle area.

The link between the forwards and backs was superbly maintained by Thomas, who was sniping and ready to bring in the backs outside him.

Harri Williams and Dominic Booth both ended up with four tries each, which was their reward for being in position and supporting the hard-working forwards.

The wingers, Harvey Johns and Dylan Scotcher, also had fine games and ended up on the scoresheet.

Tenby eventually ended up winners 14 tries to nil. However, Fishguard also played their part, but it was a day when everything paid off for Tenby and all the hard work they have been doing in training reaped its rewards.

Fishguard, to their credit, never gave up and this was only their third loss of the season.

Training as normal at the astroturf on Thursdays, 5-6 pm. New players are always welcome as two U9 teams are run, so every child has a game.
