WHITLAND U13s nil TENBY UTD U13s 40 pts.

On Sunday, Tenby Under 13s travelled to local rivals Whitland for their second game of the season. After a sound performance at Milford in their first game, the Reds carried on where they left off and hit the ground running straight from kick-off. The coaches had set out a game plan of aggressive defence and strong ruck play, which the boys carried out to the letter of the law.

Within five minutes, Shaun had gone over the line for an unconverted try. His opposite winger Olly T-B quickly added a second.

Confidence was high, and Tenby kept the ball alive at most points of contact. This stretched the Whitland defence and they were often forced into mistakes, kicking loosely and being driven off the ball at rucks.

A turnover led to centre Jerome scoring Tenby's third. He converted this himself and at half-time Tenby were leading by 19 points to nil.

Tenby's real strength this season is its squad and the changes at half-time made no difference to the style in which the boys were playing. Tries followed in the second half by Bronzac, Olly T-B and Shaun.

Without taking anything away from the try scorers, no individual player deserves singling out this week. This truly was a team effort. The forwards rucked and mauled as if their lives depended on it and the backs put so much pressure on Whitland at set plays that they often pushed play 15-20 metres back.

Well done boys, keep it up.

Next game is home to Pembroke on Sunday, October 12.

Thanks again to all parents for chauffering the boys to the game. Your support is so important.

Tenby fielded: Luke, Daniel, Tom, Aled, Ryan, Bronzac, Aaron, Olly, Marcus, Ethan, Jools, Kieran, Rob, Elliott, Jerome, Shaun, Olly T-B, Nathan, Josh, Jonathon and Jordan.

tenby U10s 4 tries

whitland 2

On a foggy Sunday morning, Tenby hosted Whitland in their third game of the season.

Whitland started very well, pushing big players past the Tenby boys and after only a few minutes of play they knew it was going to be a close game.

A good offload by Danny enabled Ryan to run through the middle of the defence and score Tenby's first try.

Tom Murphy and Tao worked well to put pressure on Whitland with good tackling and reading of the game.

Ben put the ball into a scrum and a great pass to Danny enabled him to run for the corner to score Tenby's second.

Toby played very well and always seemed to be the first to be on the Whitland boys, tackling hard.

Tenby were constantly under pressure from Whitland, however, and there were lots of missed tackles.

The Whitland boys were large and strong, but when Ryan receives the ball there is no stopping him when he's at full speed and he went over for Tenby's third try.

At half-time, Whitland must have had a good team talk and came out aggressive, which paid off with an instant try.

They looked very impressive and it took all of Jack Broadhurst's power to stop them from scoring again.

Tenby were being outplayed and they missed tackles which made it easier for Whitland to score again!

Jack Broadhurst and Jack Tucker turned the game around, however, by putting pressure on Whitland, which slowed the game down.

Tom Murphy produced some great play and passed the ball well to Alex, who went over the line for a well deserved try.

And Tenby came close to another when Jac Waters set off on a fantastic run which saw him side-step a number of players before being tackled hard into touch.

Subs Tao and Callum showed great promise and played well and will be a great asset to Tenby Under 10s.

The best part of watching Tenby is not their individual talents, but the way they get together as a team of great friends!

Tenby Swifts Under 9s

This was a hard fought game in which Tenby Swifts Under 9s (sponsored by Folly Farm) beat Whitland by six tries to two.

Whitland started the game very well and retained possession well at the contact area and were quick to recycle the ball.

Tenby's main strength was at the tackle area where they gave little away with their well organised defence. The young Swifts have really worked hard over the last couple of weeks and were glad that Whitland gave them a real game to challenge themselves.

Jamie, Henry and Harvey Bowles led the line in defence and were always looking to put Whitland on the back foot.  Ben had a superb game, along with fellow forwards Billy and William, who were eager to run at the opposition with ball in hand.

This created  gaps which enabled ever-present scrum-half Iori to offload to Harri, Dom and Thomas, who exploited the Whitland defence, from which most of the tries were scored.

Harry Cook, Lewis, Morgan, Dylan and Harvey Johns entered the game during the second half and showed that the team has plenty of strength in depth.

Try scorers were Harri Williams (2), William Swales, Dom Booth, Billy Kinnaer and Ben Millward.

The coaches reminded the boys after the game that there was still a lot of work to be done, especially when ball was lost going into contact when there are players in support out wide.

They also praised the boys because, although Whitland were a well organised side, the young Folly Farmers tackled their hearts out, which enabled them to win the game.  Well done boys!

Training as normal at the astroturf in Tenby, Thursdays 5-6 pm.
