Tenby U9s 7 tries St. Davids U9s 4
Tenby U9s, bolstered by their away win at the Quins the previous week, played host to St. Davids on the weekend, looking for a repeat performance.
It was St. Davids, however, who started the strongest, quickly touching down for two early tries.
Tenby responded by tightening their defensive line and being more clinical with their tackles. With their defence now shored up, Tenby began to go through the phases and it wasn't long before their hard work was rewarded; Max using his strength to drive over the line.
A powerful run by Owen through the heart of the St. Davids defence set up the next try, Donovan picking up and jinking his way in at the corner. Further pressure by Tenby saw St. Davids give away a penalty close to their line, Jacob taking it quickly to dive over and give Tenby the lead.
From the restart, St. Davids broke away and it was only the excellent chasing back by Morgan to make a tackle which prevented St. Davids from going in level at the break.
Tenby continued the good work of the first half, Tom and Aaron driving forward and presenting the ball for Sean to pick up and use his power to get over the whitewash.
Further good work by the powerful forwards and quick recycling of the ball saw Bethan cross the line.
St. Davids never gave up and looked to be building momentum, only for captain Bethan to step in again, rip the ball and score a superb individual try.
With Tenby now dominating, Donovan saw a gap and got his second, darting in at the corner.
Tenby then took their foot off the accelerator and let in two sloppy tries to allow St. Davids back into the game; only Jamie and Harry's bone-crunching tackles preventing the away team from scoring again.
Final score: Tenby 7 St. Davids 4; another superb performance from the team.
Tenby fielded: Donovan Griffin, Jacob Knox, Morgan Scourfield, Jamie Lewis, Tom Kinnear, Harry Vickery, Owen Davies, Max Sarrionandia, Bethan Machin (capt.), Sean Webb, Aaron Lloyd.
TENBY UNDER8s 7 tries ST. DAVIDS U8s 3
Tenby Under 8s entertained St. Davids on a cold and blustery day last Sunday.
Early pressure from St. Davids was contained by some great tagging by Charlie and Alex. Danny, supported by Tom, was unlucky to be tagged just before the line.
Ben showed his pace and sprinted down the wing for his first try. Another soon followed from Jac W, who was quick to spot a gap in the St. Davids defence. A lovely pass by Jack T enabled Ben to go over for his second, and two well-deserved tries by St. Davids took the teams into half-time.
Jack C, Alex and Tom tagged well and Billy went on the counter-attack, crossing the line for the fourth try. Danny weaved through the opposition for a great individual try.
The St. David's number eight was too strong for the Tenby defence and went over for their third, but the match ended with two lovely tries by the powerful Jack C and Jack T. Well done boys!
Many thanks to Jim Kinnear and Carol Wainwright for all their hard work.
Tenby fielded: Jac Waters, Tom Murphy, Ben Palin, Danny Wainwright, Jack Cummins, Billy Kinnear, Charlie Andrews, Alex Thomas, Jack Tucker.
TENBY SWIFTS U11s 12 ST. DAVIDS RFC U11s 4
On a bright, fresh morning, Tenby Swifts U11s played hosts to St. Davids RFC.
Tenby, playing with bags of confidence after their performance against the Quins last week, started with an unfamiliar line-up. Nathan played his first game at scrum-half, Robert at centre, with Jools and Kane starting on the wing. Daniel started the game as lock, with Oliver prowling up and down the line waiting to get on!
Early exchanges were fairly equal, with both teams breaking tackles and scoring at will.
Encouragingly, all of the team were looking to play running rugby. Referee Dave Lewis blew up for half-time with the score standing at 4-4.
After a reality check at half-time from the coaches, the boys started the second half knowing what they had to do. Olly came on for Daniel, Kieran for Nathan, Josh for Jools, Elliot for Kane and Jonathon for Robert. This enabled Tenby to step up a gear and play some exciting rugby.
Among the highlights were first tries for Jonathon, Kane, Aled and Daniel.
Thomas, Bronzac and Corey worked tirelessly up front to rescue ball.
Tenby try scorers were Ellis 3, Kieran 2, Oliver 2, Josh, Daniel, Kane, Jonathon and Aled.
Special mention must be made of the coaches' man-of-the match Nathan and also Ellis's boots! Have you ever seen anything whiter? Thanks to Dave for refereeing and to all the parents for their support.
Next game is home to Whitland on February 4.
