Tenby U13s 3 tries NarbeRth U13s 5
Tenby Under 13s played away to Narberth on Sunday in a match that is always keenly anticipated by both sides. Narberth quickly scored two tries, spotting gaps in the Tenby line. Tenby, however, didn't let their heads drop, as they have done in the past, and kept trying, with James W doing a brilliant job of chasing an almost certain Narberth try and holding it up. Greg C eventually crossed the line for the first of his three tries. In the second half, Greg crossed the line twice more, running in his third try from the Narberth 22, with no-one being able to match his speed. All the Tenby boys played well, with James O once again using his height to win his own and many of the opposition's lineouts, Jo F making a lovely run towards the end of the match and Matthew, as always, flattening most players that came near him. Dominic also did well in the unfamiliar position of fullback. Narberth were just faster to the breakdowns, getting quicker ball to their backs. Tenby, however, played well and never stopped trying. Well done. Tenby fielded: Jack Butler, Dylan Griffin (capt.), Wesley Bonser, Cameron Wood, Adam North, James Oakley, Matthew Lewis, Rob Luly, Ben Prestwich, Joe Dennis, James Woods, Elliot Randell, Ben Thomas, Greg Caine, Jo Farrell, Henry Pritchard Jones, Jake Proctor, Luke Hicks, Andrew Murphy, Dominic Hicks.
TENBY UTD U16s 31 pts. PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 0
Tenby Under 16s ground out a 31-0 win at Pembroke Dock last Sunday in a game that deteriorated into an ill-tempered affair when the glorious autumn sunshine demanded open rugby. Tenby began well enough when captain and number eight Jason Ronowitz picked up from the base of a scrum on the home 22 to race over unchallenged for a try under the posts which Jamie Williams easily converted. Minutes later, fullback Chris Heesom raced 50 yards up the left flank to cross for the first of his two tries and again Williams added the two points. After that, the Quins seemed to settle into their chosen style of play and it disrupted Tenby's rhythm. Too many penalties were conceded or rather awarded and the score remained 14-0 at half-time. The second half started well for Tenby, with Ronowitz and Heesom again crossing for tries, one of which was converted by Williams. Yet again, as in the first half, the Quins came back aggressively and while they never looked like scoring, disrupted the Tenby side to the extent that there was no more scoring until Ronowitz crossed for his third try after 25 minutes following some outstanding support work from flanker Joseff Morris. It was clear that a try was going to be scored by one of the two back row men, but by whom was in doubt, as the home fullback hauled each player down on a number of occasions, only for the ball to be popped up to the supporting player each time. That completed the scoring and the final whistle put the close on a physical game and confirmed Tenby standing as second in the league. Wings Vince Gyseman and Tom Harland acquitted themselves well defensively, as did Matthew Davies returning from injury at fullback . Chris Heesom showed his paces with a pair of tries, until he was forced off late in the second half with a leg injury. Centres Jamie Williams and Toby Smith played attritional games in the midfield against some direct-running opposition. Tenby fielded their sixth new pairing at half-back in as many games, but the position now looks more settled, with Lloyd Thomas filling the number 10 shirt with maturity for his years and Jack Baker settling into the scrum-half role nicely and bringing in his competitive edge from years spent in the back row. Speaking of the back row, they were once again an outstanding unit, with Jason Ronowitz, in addition to his hat-trick of tries, providing the bulk of the lineout ball and being a force in the loose. Joseff Morris and Sam Ferguson were also forceful in loose and tight play and their support work was inspired. James North and Roy Osborne have developed into a combative pair of locks who play above their weight and are always to the fore in driving mauls. The front row shored up well against heavier opposition, with Will Hughes and Robert Jones proving pillars of strength alongside the ubiquitous Yannic Parker at hooker. Tenby will have to cut their penalty account and keep their tackles low against Milford Haven, who visit Heywood Lane this Sunday, November 12, as far too many were given away last week, allowing the opposition off the hook. Kick-off is at 1 pm against Milford and all support is welcomed. Tenby fielded: Chris Heesom, Matthew Davies, Vince Gyseman, Tom Harland, Jamie Williams, Toby Smith, Lloyd Thomas, Jack Baker, Robert Jones, Yannic Parker, Will Hughes, Roy Osborne, James North, Sam Ferguson, Jason Ronowitz (capt.) and Joseff Morris.
