Tenby Under 11s travelled to Neyland on Sunday with high hopes; all the boys were keen and ready to show everyone what they were made of. Unfortunately, it was obviously a bit early for them, as they lost their first game to Whitland by one try to nil. After that wake-up call, the boys came alive and played six of the best games they have played all season. They just seemed to get better with every game, beating Neyland two tries to one, Narberth B four tries to nil, the game against Milford was stopped at half time after Tenby got five great tries and Haverfordwest B were also beaten five tries to nil. And so, to much cheering from the crowd, the boys made the semi-final playing Haverfordwest A team. Greg got an early try which seemed to settle Tenby's nerves. Teague then made a lovely interception to score a brilliant runaway try, with Greg scoring once again to make it three-nil to Tenby. And so, into the final to play Pembroke Dock Quins. Joe D got an early try in the final and Tenby continued to play their hearts out, putting the Quins under constant pressure, barely letting them out of their own half. Unfortunately, the Quins got three breakaways tries against the run of play to make the final score three tries to Tenby's one. Special mention should go to all the players. Try scorers were Greg with eight, Rob with five, Teague with three, David with two, and Cam and Joe with one apiece, but tries would not be scored without the rest of the team doing the hard work. Indeed, all the boys put their bodies on the line, so thanks also go to workhorses Dylan, Jack, James, Mathew and hardworking tacklers Elliot and Ben. It was a wonderful day and the boys did themselves proud, not only in the way they played, but the way in which they conducted themselves both on and off the pitch. It really was a pleasure to be a part of both for the coaches, Myrdd and Dave, and all of Tenby's loyal supporters. All had a wonderful day and shouted themselves hoarse - thank you boys. Tenby fielded: Jack Butler, Dylan Griffin, Cameron Wood, Rob Luly, James Oakley, Matthew Lewis, Joe Dennis, Greg Caine, Teague Galvin (capt.), Elliot Randall, David Dunfee, Ben Thomas. Tenby Swifts will be staging 'A Night at the Races' at Tenby Rugby Club on Wednesday, April 20, at 7.30 pm, to raise funds for their presentation night.
