Tenby U13s 59

Llandovery U13s 19

Sunday, October 13 at Llandovery will last forever in the memories of all the players, coaches and supporters.

Two weeks after suffering a heavy defeat at home to stylish Llandovery, Tenby turned in the performance of a lifetime to inflict sweet revenge with a magnificent 59 - 19 victory at a rain-swept venue.

After some gentle persuasion the home-side referee decided that impartiality was the order of the day. No-one could be singled out as this was truly a team effort combining controlled aggression, large amounts of skill, sticking to game plans and a real desire to win.

On this performance Tenby are a match for any team they come across. Congratulations to all the boys and the two very proud coaches.

For the record Tenby tries came from Rob Colley (3), Luke Deadman (2), Simon Standford, Guto Griffiths, Danny Williams and Tom Griffiths while Guto Griffiths added seven conversions.

The victorious squad were: Scott Helmich, Simon Standford, Jamie Robbins, Danny Williams, Ben Griffiths, Guto Griffiths, Sam Baker, Henry Boot, Rob Colley, Alex Hamilton, Luke Deadman, Joe Lewis, Tom Griffiths, Huw Evans, David Denton, Richard Jones, Matthew Lewis.

TENBY SWIFTS U12 35pts LLANDOVERY U12s 0

In a freezing downpour, our intrepid under 12s trotted out another big 30 pointer without reply when they visited an improving Llandovery side last Sunday.

A few weeks ago the two teams met at Greenhill school's ground and whilst the score in favour of Tenby was greater on that occasion (39-0), this was a more satisfying performance.

Five tries were scored in all following some fine passing and running in atrocious conditions, all of which were converted. Toby Smith got his customary touch down after a 50 yard run and was always a danger man for the defence.

Jamie Williams followed in his steps after breaking the opposition line and dummying his way through. Joseff Morris got the reward for backing up when Toby put him away down the touch line for a superb back-row forward try.

Joe Kidney was always threatening in the centre but his try did not come until he was moved on the wing in the second half, Kiefer Thomson had gone to centre from scrum half, where he, in turn, was replaced by the lively James Canton and he saw Joe's overlap when the game was stagnating, to put him away to sprint half the length of the pitch.

The try scoring was rounded off by a sparkling run by James Criddle who sidestepped off both feet and used his pace to score under the posts. All five try were converted by Patrick Roberts who was, of course, assisted by the fact that the scorers had touched down as near the post as possible but nevertheless, in the condition,s it was a cool performance.

Chris Heesman and Rhys Winter shared the wing berths and whilst they did not get on the scoresheet, continue their development.

The forwards are gelling into a formidable unit with Jack Baker in the front row particularly impressive with his direct approaches with the ball in hand. Declan Sharma once again showed he is developing well as a hooker and his delight was obvious when he took strikes against the head. Sam Ferguson and Gareth Lawrence shared the loose head position and both showed good promise and commitment in the tight. Second rowers Oliver Goldwait and Daniel McDermott were constantly looking for work and relish running with the ball.

Days like this required more commitment to the tight play and they did not lack in that department.

Callum Baxter came on in the second half and will learn as the season goes on as his enthusiasm is unquestionable. The back row is becoming a balance specialist unit, with Yannick Parker settling into the blind side role with relish. His tackling has become deadly and he made some fine charges in the loose. Joseff Morris on the openside has all the attributes to go far and has the speed to get amongst the opposition backs. Patrick Roberts in addition to his kicking skills holds the pack together at No8 and shows his worth as a fine distributor of the ball and is the link between the forwards and the backs.

Finally, at full back Matthew Davies is probably one of the best tacklers at this level in the country. Once again opposition players will know they have received the 'big hit' from this committed players, who also shows fine footballing skills in attack.

Llandovery made two telling incursions into Tenby territory in reply when loose passes were intercepted. Their players however seemed to freeze. When confronted and were quickly surrounded and out numbered on both occasions for the attack to be snuffed out. Tenby will have to tighten up, however, on their passing and learn the lesson.

Finally an impressive phase of play towards the end of the game saw the forwards and backs taking the ball on in a style that the All Blacks (both Welsh and NZ) would have been proud of, Jamie, Oliver, Yannic, Joseff, Patrick and particularly Jack were prominent in this movement and it is hoped that this momentum can be continued.

Tenby fielded: Matthew Davies, Chris Heesom, Rhys Winter, Joe Kidney, Toby Smith, James Criddle, James Williams, Kiefer Thomson, James Canton, Jack Bevan, Declan Sharma, Sam Ferguson, Gareth Lawrence, Matthew McDermott, Oliver Goldwait, Callum Baxter, Yannic Parker, Joseff Morris and Patrick Roberts (capt).
