Tenby has retained its title as one of the top floral town's in Wales.
Months of hard work planting, weeding and watering flower displays in the resort finally paid off yesterday (Thursday) when it was revealed that the town had won the Wales in Bloom Small Town Trophy for the 11th year in succession and the 21st time since the competition was launched.
Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, who is also chairman of the Town Council's garden's committee was "overwhelmed" with the news.
"It's absolutely brilliant," she told the Observer. "This year has been quite difficult, with the temperamental weather - either too wet or too dry - and the fact that we have had to cut back on our town council gardens staff but we're proud and delighted to have won for the 11th successive year. I'm still waiting for it to sink in."
Clr. Mrs. Brown extended her grateful thanks to all the townspeople who created the "beautiful floral displays" which helped the town win the national accolade.
She also paid special tribute to Tenby Town Council head gardener Kevin Taylor and his gardens staff for all their hard work.
The high standard of entries again this year had judges and competition organisers showering praise on the winners and runners-up.
Competition chairman Clive Addison said: "This year's competition has again made life very difficult for the event judges; the standard of Wales' blooms just seems to go from strength to strength."
