On Monday, May 11, members of Tenby Inner Wheel met at the Fourcroft for their monthly business meeting, but more importantly for the presentation of a cheque to the president's chosen charity for the year, DebRA.

DebRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by EB, a rare genetic condition which causes the skin to blister and shear at the slightest friction, or even spontaneously.

Laura Pratt, of DebRA, was present to accept the cheque, and other guests welcomed by the president were Michael Bell and his wife Judith, Lowrie Walker and Ladies Circle chairman Jayne Osborne.

President Joyce thanked all members of Inner Wheel for helping to raise the grand sum of £5,000, with particular thanks to Michael Bell, who having learned of the charity from Joyce, and gives regular 'after dinner talks' contributing any proceeds to charity, donated £2,300 - an amazing amount. Ladies Circle and individual members of Inner Wheel were thanked for their donations. Michael Bell spoke briefly - a taste of his after dinner speech making!

Laura Pratt thanked everyone for all they had done and particularly president Joyce for choosing DebRA as her charity. The money would be used wisely and well and would be of great help in raising the profile of DebRA.

After a very enjoyable meal, members proceeded with the business meeting.

Donations to several local charities were approved, including The Gateway Club, The Scouts and Guides, Tenby Talking Newspapers and Sandy Bears (support for bereaved children).

President Joyce reported that, on behalf of the club, she had presented Jean Williams with a commemorative handbag mirror to mark 50 years of membership of Tenby Inner Wheel. Jean is not well at present and good wishes have been sent from her fellow club members.

Earlier in April, president, Joyce, Ann Kelly, Meryl Sharp and Mary Fleming had attended the association conference at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. The theme for this year is 'Realise your vision and make a difference' and the four days away were enjoyed by all.

On April 30, 16 members and friends took a minibus to Llancaich Fawr Manor. Coffee and biscuits were served on the way courtesy of president Joyce. The group stepped back in time at the Manor, being welcomed by the servants, working there in the absence of the family, the era 1645, the time of the Civil War.

Having learnt a lot about their lives in those days, it was time to depart.

After a most enjoyable lunch, there was time to visit Culver House Cross and Marks and Spencer before returning to Tenby.

Plans are going forward for the handover lunch at Trefloyne on June 29 and the district annual general meeting and handover lunch to be held at the De Valence Pavilion on Thursday, June 25.

The next meeting on June 8 will be followed by the annual general meeting and a 'Pandora Box'.
