Questions are being asked of the owners of a seafront hotel in Tenby, after claims a convicted paedophile has been working as a senior employee for over a year at the company that owns it - raising a whole raft of safeguarding concerns.
A source connected to the Imperial Hotel has stated that they are concerned for children's safety at the establishment, but that the concerns of employees have been dismissed by the owners Crest Hotels Group.
It is alleged that Mark Bishop (who has been using the name Mark Wylde) has for more than a year been employed as group director of ‘guest experience’ for Crest Hotels Group who aquired the hotel located overlooking the seaside town’s South Beach back in 2024.
Bishop was a manager in the youth offending service at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, when he was sentenced for possessing images of child sex abuse back in 2018.
He admitted three counts of possessing indecent images; and was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months, at Cardiff Crown Court.
Bishop was also placed under a sexual harm prevention order, external for five years. He was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years after his conviction.
Staff at the hotel who recently learned of his history are said to have raised concerns to management.
When the allegation was put to the owners, they responed by stating: "We are aware of information that has been brought to our attention regarding a member of staff. We take safeguarding and the wellbeing of our guests and employees extremely seriously. As this is an ongoing process, we are unable to comment further at this time.
"In line with our established procedures, we have initiated an internal review and the individual is not currently undertaking duties on behalf of the business."
Mark Wylde’s profile (which has since been removed) on the Crest Hotels Group website, states he is a ‘Director of Guest Experience’ - going on to state: “my role is to shape every moment of a guest's journey, from their first interaction with us to their last memory of their stay.”
Last year, the Hotel unveiled refurbishments to the Grade II listed building, as part of a major renovation project.
The cherished hotel, built within the ancient town walls with breathtaking views of South Beach, and looking out to Caldey Island has offered an unbeatable hotel location in Tenby for over 120 years.
