Ladies' Section
In recent weeks, only one Thursday competition has been postponed and more of us have decided it is warm enough to venture out onto the course.
In the West Wales Ladies' Golf Association Foursomes qualifying round, Rhian Walters and Toni Lucas were the runaway winners with 43 points and we wish them a successful run in the matchplay stages.
The March GUW Weekend Medal was won by Ann Wilks from Linda Evans, neither of whom reduced their handicaps! However, during the week, Toni Lucas with a nett 72 and Pam Cole on nett 74 were certainly nearer.
The Hill-Lowe Bogey competition played over six months of the year is always popular, even if more difficult than most events since it is virtually matchplay against the course and, unlike a living opponent, the course does not make mistakes.
The first HLB was won by Linda Evans on -2 with Denise Edwards on -3.
The LGU Challenge Bowls qualifying round was played at the beginning of April and the Silver Division qualifier was Pam Cole on nett 71, from Denise Edwards on 74, while in the Bronze Division, it was Mel Smith on nett 68 from Liz Storey on 75. We wish them good rounds in the area finals.
Last week, the captain, Heather Morgan, decided the weather was too dreary and threatening for the Annual Captain v Vice-Captain match and it was postponed until April 30. Never mind, we all enjoyed a good natter and the traditional Easter eggs provided by the captain. Many thanks, Heather.
The club professional, Rhys Harry, is hoping to organise another taster session for beginners towards the end of April, and is looking forward to setting more ladies on the path to some enjoyable golf and companionship.
Any potential players and also current players could not do better than to watch some of the competitors in the 36-hole low handicap competition on Sunday in which many of the present and up-and-coming international players will be competing.
