Tenby Rabbits started their 2008-2009 winter league season on Sunday First on the agenda was enjoying the bacon rolls and coffee provided by Gary and Julia at the clubhouse - very nice too.

However, two of the boys in particular had to stand up for having amazing memories. Despite being sat to the left and right, respectively, at the AGM, when it was discussed that the above would be available, one of them had a hearty home-cooked breakfast and the other strolled in munching one purchased elsewhere. Yes, I refer to new captain, Mark Edwards and his vice, Mick Gillet - shape up boys, remember you two run the show now eh!

After a few words from Mark, everyone assembled out on the putting green for a photo, courtesy of the Rabbits' very own John Hunt; then it was down to business.

It was another sunny and dry day, if a little breezy, and the usual high standard of Rabbits golf was to follow, with at least two of the lads displaying different styles of driving. Sure enough, both were long and into parts of the course never seen before, but one was doing it with his ball, Mike Hale, and the other, Dorian Thomas, was doing it with his buggy - and this guy drives a truck for a living?

Driving of a different approach came from Simon Evans. For those who don't know, this man hits a ball with such venom, it goes miles, as demonstrated on the fourth - it was just a pity he was playing the third. Off you go Mackie Harts, fetch boy. They must of done something right, though, because they walloped John (the pipe) Murphy and new boy Gerald Hewitt 9 and 8.

Another pairing showing amazing displays of driving was that of Terry Davies and John Hunt. Apparently John was so amazed to have a second shot on the 10th, he duffed it along the fairway. One of the bookies favourites these were!

Witness was also given to past captain Chris Smith topping a ball all of 18 inches and then whacking it Happy Gilmore style in frustration - watch out, Mackie's about!

So a good start was had to the first round of winter league matches, with results as follows:

Simon Evans and Mackie Harts beat Gerald Hewitt and John Murphy 9 and 8.

Fred Adlam and Mike Munro halved with John Hunt and Terry Davies.

Mark Edwards and Mick Gillet beat Dave Morgan and Juan Cruz 2 up.

Jerry Whitehouse and Chris Smith beat Chris Davies and Steve Watkins 2 and 1.

Dafydd Evans and Paul Davies beat Mike Hale and Dorian Thomas 3 and 2.
