Tenby entertain Langland and Pennard

In a departure from the normal format, Tenby Golf Club entertained Langland Bay and Pennard Golf Clubs from Swansea on Saturday.

Normally the fixture is played over two consecutive weekends, with each team playing a fourball competition against Tenby. This time, to celebrate the playing of the Ryder Cup, we decided to have an inter-club stableford competition, with a few individual prizes to keep the interest going.

On one of the sunniest days of the year, Rhys Parry, our golf professional, led the way, with club vice-captain Idwal David off second playing against the respective captains of Langland and Pennard.

In the team competition, Tenby came first, followed very closely by Pennard and Langland Bay a close third.

Individually, Ceri Llewellyn, Steve Jones, John Allchurch, Al Verbruggen and Mike Schooling shared the pot, with John Morris (longest drive), Don Sigsworth (closest the pin), and Steve Amos, Mike Gardener and Al Verbruggan (best three-ball). Don Sigsworth, Rob Gallagher and Mike Jones brought up the rear as the worst scoring three-ball.

A curry followed the day's play while watching the Ryder Cup on the television.

The course is in wonderful condition at the moment, and with everyone enjoying the day and format, we may well do it all over again next year - if we get over the hangovers!

Out with the old in with the new

At the annual general meeting of Tenby Golf Club on Tuesday, Mr. Idwal David took over the captaincy from Mr. Bryn Rowell, while Mr. Geoff Aston took over from Mr. Keith Connor as the president.

Thanks were expressed to both Bryn and Keith for all the hard work and enthusiasm they had put in over the past year.

The new captain said that he was looking forward to working with all the members in the coming year and hoped that they would continue to support the club as in the previous year.
