The May Bank holiday weekend was a very busy one at Tenby Golf Club. On Saturday it was the Golden Eagle, on Sunday the Serendipity Bowl and on Monday the Nat West Cup. It was good weather for all three competitions. Golden Eagle
The Golden Eagle is a WGU qualifying competition and is part of the Trubshaw Cup, the other part of which is the Carmarthen Shield played at Ashburnham Golf Club the following day. It was played on Saturday and Sunday and is a scratch competition played over 36 holes at each club. The first round had four players on 71, with C. Cousins from Aberdare Golf Club winning with a better back six, B. Westgate from Perranporth Golf Club was second with a better back nine , third was P. O'Hanlon from the Curragh Golf Club in Ireland with a better back six and fourth was L. Mathews from Southerndown Golf Club. The second round had two players with 69 and one with 70. Winner was R. N. Merchant from Monmouthshire Golf Club with 69 and a better back six, second was J. Vickery from Newport Golf Club and third was C. Evans from West Monmouth Golf Club. Overall winner of the Golden Eagle was J. Vickery with 141 over the two rounds, second was B. Westgate with 142 and third was C. Evans with 143. The competition was played from the blue tees, including the eighth from the back tee and thanks are due to all residents and visitors for their co- operation. Serendipity Bowl
This fourball (better ball) Stableford competition for ladies and men, involving both visitors and club members, was played on Sunday. There were some excellent scores. The winners were V. James and Mr. Branden with 41 points, second were J. C. Thomas and D. Sigsworth with 40 points, third were N. Harts and J. Jenkins with 39 points and a better back nine and fourth were R. W. Johns and J. Harries also with 39 points. Four pairs had twos.
Nat West Cup
This medal competition was played on Monday and demonstrated some very good golf. Winner was David Schooling with an excellent net 63, second was John Griffiths with a net 68 and a better back six, third was Brian Cramb, also with a net 68, and fourth was Ray Muskett with a net 69. There were 50 competitors and of those nine had 2s, with Brian Cramb getting two of them. Next competition The next competition will be the May monthly medal tomorrow (Saturday) and is a qualifier for the WGU individual handicap qualifier.
