The second half of Open Week started on Wednesday, June 9, with the medal. On Thursday it was the yellow box Stableford competitions, and on Friday it was a fun competition, a Texas scramble.

Although good for golf, the weather was not as hot in the second half as it was in the first, although it stayed dry.

Unfortunately, the two holes in one recorded during the first half were not repeated in the second half.

After Open Week the club competitions started again on Saturday with the AJO Bowl first round at Trefloyne.

Medal

This was held on Wednesday. The competition produced some very good golf.

The ladies winner was Elaine Park, of Camberley Heath, with a net 71, second was Pam Wallis, of March, with 78 and a better back nine, and third was Gill Berryman, of Woodspring, also with 78.

Elaine Park also won the ladies best gross prize with a score of 86.

The men's winner was Mike Hurford from Bryn Meadows with a very good net 66, second was Harry Munslow from The Wiltshire with 67 and third was Martin Lee, of Tredegar Park, with 68.

The Tenby winner was Richard Reed with a net 69.

Mike Hurford also won the men's best gross prize with a score of 74.

The day finished with the prizes being presented by the captain, Bob Lusher, and a very good evening with Bryn Phillips, one of Wales' best known comedians.

Yellow Box

Stableford

This involved four competitions on a slightly colder day, but good for golf, and resulted in some good scores. The competitions were the men's and veterans' yellow box Stableford and the ladies' and veterans' Stableford.

The ladies veterans winner was Diane Allen from Newark with 37 points, second was Beryl Young from Hill Valley with 34 and third was Barbara Marfin from Gainsborough with 33.

The ladies winner was Lynn Buttery from Sherwood Forest with 34 points, second was Pauline Sleet from Sandmartin and third was Freda Clarke from Maple Durham with 27.

The Tenby ladies winner was Heather Morgan with 37 points.

The men's veteran winner was John Clarke from Maple Durham with 36 points and a better last nine, second also with 36 points was John Birkin from Fulford Heath with a better last three and again with 36 points was Derek Young from Hill Valley.

The men's competition was won by John Parker from Broome Manor with 38 points, second was Paul Evans from Tlyney Park with 37 and a better last six and third, also with 37, was P. Horton, of Woodlake Park.

The Tenby men's winner was Mike Nesbitt-Hawes with 33 points.

After the competition there was an excellent BBQ with Country and Western music played and sung by Sharri and Steel.

The evening ended with the prizes presented by the lady captain, Anne Wilks, and the club president, Geoffrey Childs.

Texas Scramble

This was a much more relaxed competition than the ones earlier in the week, and a good one to end what was an excellent week.

The winning team with a net 59 were Brian Kelly from Sandmartins, Ray Arding from Aspect Park, Mike Killick and Margaret Todd from Maple Durham.

The second team were Brian Turner from Sunningdale Artisans, David Morgan from Tenby, Jackie Tighe from Camberley Heath and Joan Barker from Hurst.

The third team were John Clarke from Maple Durham, Steve Bodman from Marlborough, Brian Hensall from Hill Valley and Ann Perkins from Gainsborough.

The evening ended with the Tenby Male Voice Choir in excellent voice and then a singalong with David Morgan on the piano.

The prizes were presented by the captain and his wife, Bob and Sharon Lusher, and Sharon was presented with a cut glass vase to say thank you.
