Tenby Golf Club was full of fun and laughter on Friday, December 21, when 72 juniors were present for their annual dinner and prize-giving. Never had a dinner been so well supported, and the evening ran smoothly and enjoyably thanks to the hard work of the junior organiser, Ian Thomas.

The juniors were honoured by the presence of two presidents, namely Mr. Gwyn Tibbs and Mrs. Mary Rowell, as well as the lady captain.

The evening started off with an excellent dinner provided by Roger, Ria and their staff.

Ian then reflected on some of the highlights of the year, including the fun night back in February, the success of the Golf Foundation, and the many away days, where a number of the juniors had been successful, including Sam Morgan, Jack Guerreriro and Oliver Duckett. He also mentioned the first ever Junior Open, which turned out to be an excellent day, as did Junior Captain's Day.

Oliver Duckett spoke about his year as junior captain; he gave an excellent speech - very cool, calm and collected - we were impressed. He thanked everyone for their support and wished Niclas Thomas all the best for his year.

The juniors were then introduced to their new captain. Niclas said he looked forward to his year as captain and hoped that with the support of his vice, David Ayers, 2002 would be another good golfing year for Tenby Juniors.

Then the reason we were all there - prizes!

The first to receive prizes were all those who had completed the various levels of the Golf Foundation Merit Award Scheme. These were presented by the professional, Mark Hawkey.

The only person to complete the whole section of the Golf Foundation Red Level, a total of three levels, was Sam Morgan, the first ever for Tenby Junior Section.

Then it was the turn of the big boys and girls! Dan Cope had a very successful year, winning the Steve Evans Trophy with Brett Davies, the David Hughes Christmas Cup, Russell Jones Cup, Noyce Cup Winners Cup and a medal.

Jack Guerreriro also enjoyed his year, winning the Duffy Cup and the Ernie Fitchett Cup. Sam Morgan was the winner of the Haf Cup as well as a medal.

Other medal winners included Oliver Duckett, Jason Ronowitz, Richard Morton (2), Niclas Thomas (2), Lloyd Williams, Glenn Hoyland and Dan Worley.

In the girls section, Mary Rowell presented her trophy to Nerys Lloyd, the winner for the second year running. She also presented Holly Watkins with the runner-up prize. Georgia Thomas received the St. Andrew's Salver. The lady captain Beryl Oliver presented Holly with the Ladies Scratch Cup, as well as the Jones-Lewis Salver.

Clive Deeley, a keen junior supporter, then presented the boys with their men's trophies, Richard Morton the Presidents Cup as well as the Men's Mid Week Medal, and David Ayers with the Davies Cup. He also presented Oliver with the long lost Junior Scratch Cup.

With everything given out, it was time to go home. An excellent evening with everyone on their best behaviour, including the adults. Simon Rossiter, an ex-junior and now a helper, couldn't believe the number of children, and only wished he was a junior again! A big thank you to Ian who did an excellent job on the night. Congratulations to all of you who won, and for those of you starting off, next year you could be one of those picking up a trophy. A big thank you to all the adults who help and support. Thanks also to Roger and Ria for their help and support.

Ian and Julia would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy golfing New Year.
