MONKTON SWIFTS U12s 2 TENBY U12s 4 Brilliant sunshine greeted the Manorbier Stores and Post Office sponsored team who were fortunate to be able to play on Monkton's top pitch as there was no senior league game later in the day. Again a slightly different formation faced up to Monkton, always difficult opponents. With both teams looking lively and up for a good game, Monkton took the early lead with a superbly taken, unstoppable goal. Hugo saw a great shot hit the underside of the bar and then one of his corners was knocked into the back of the net by Nathan in a goalmouth scramble. Renewed pressure from Monkton saw Adam emerge as the hero of the day with a series of brilliant saves which brought gasps from both sets of spectators. We went into the half-time break honours even. Early in the second half, a free-kick just inside the Monkton half, taken by Hugo, crossed the line, much to Tenby's delight. Yet again Monkton countered, Adam springing into action on several occasions, but Monkton equalised with another good goal. From a corner, the industrious Jack knocked the ball down and Dan popped one home to make it 3 -2 to Tenby. A late strike by Jack put the score, at least on paper, beyond doubt, but Monkton never gave up and it was a nail-biting end through to the final whistle. Whilst the scoreline might make it look as if Tenby had it all their own way, this was far from reality. Monkton's commitment to the game and winning the ball was a serious threat throughout and they could probably be justified in thinking they were unlucky. We could certainly take a leaf or two out of their book with regard to their competitiveness and ability to win, hold on to the ball and make good use of their possession. Adam had a monumental game in goal and his superb first-half saves probably won the tie for Tenby. Well done! Tom had another sound game in defence and Jack has to be congratulated on a fine performance, both in defence and as play-maker further up the field. Thanks to coach Simon (one spectator heard to remark that he didn't need a megaphone!), Neil and Ted on the line, our sponsors and supporters. Squad: Adam Conbeer, Corey Morris, Tom Grover, Jack Murphy, Rhys Nicholas, Sam Butler, Toby Rossiter, Daniel Fairlie, Elliot Goldsmith, Hugo Wellum, Nathan Farmiloe, George McBeth, Cheyne Lloyd, Scott Cowan. Pennar Robins U10s A 1 Tenby U10s A 0
An off-colour Tenby A team slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at Pennar Robins on Saturday. On a glorious autumn morning, Tenby started the game brightly. They forced a couple of early corners and created some promising chances. Tom Dyson hit the side netting from wide on the right, and Scott Ferney fired just over from close range. The Pennar boys also played their part in an open first half, breaking quickly and forcing a series of corners. These were well delivered, but Tenby stayed calm at the back and comfortably cleared the danger. Towards the end of the first half, Tenby had a good chance to take the lead when Declan Escott was put through on goal. But the Pennar 'keeper was having an inspired morning and quickly came out to smother the ball. Tenby kept the pressure up at the start of the second half and Declan Escott had another strike well saved by the 'keeper. The game then turned abruptly when Pennar won a free-kick by the left touchline. A long ball was driven into the box, and was blocked by the Tenby defence. However, in the ensuing scramble, it was deflected to a Pennar striker who calmly slotted the ball in from close range to give the home side the lead. Desperate to get back in the game, Tenby peppered the Pennar goal with a flurry of speculative long range shots. But with the home 'keeper in great form, some more controlled passing in the final third would probably have created a better chance of an equaliser. Despite the lack of a final killer pass, Tenby created some good moves in midfield at times, and stayed strong at the back. Defenders, Owen Coombs and Tom Harries kept their shape, pushed up to support the front men and tackled back very well, and Tenby 'keeper Daniel Evans was rarely called into action. Adam Muskett slotted in well on the right when he came off the bench. He made some crucial challenges and strong runs from deep. At left back, Spencer Williams provided another professional performance, and almost created a last-gasp equaliser as he surged forward at the end of the game. His rasping shot was spilled by the 'keeper. Dylan Rees reacted very quickly, and was unlucky to see his snap volley skim the top of the bar. Credit must go to Pennar Robins A, who bounced back from last week's 5-1 defeat to Tenby B, to secure an unexpected victory. Well done also to those members of the Tenby team who kept their discipline and played good football to the final whistle. Thanks to Park Road Fish and Chips, the Tenby Under 10s kit sponsors, and to all the parents for their positive support and encouragement.
TENBY U9s 9 LAMPHEY U9s 0
The Andrew Price sponsored U9s played host to Lamphey on Saturday. With conditions perfect, Tenby produced some good football, with excellent passing and movement on and off the ball. Lamphey played their part and looked busy and always looked dangerous on the break. Harry Goforth and Ben Howells played well along with Natty John. The midfield of Jack Parkinson and Billy Truman worked hard. With Jordan Cornick and George Taylor up front, it was not long before the goals came. The first was an own goal, followed by others from George, Jack, Billy, Jordan and with the introduction of Frazer Finlay, Rhys Davis and Adam Davidson. It was Adam who scored the ninth and final goal. The boys also hit the crossbar and post three times. Lamphey played well, but Tenby had their tails up from the start. Credit must go to the Lamphey 'keeper, who pulled off some excellent saves. A second game was played after and, with all the squad involved, it was Malley Paxton and Ryan Townsend who opened the scoring, followed by more goals from Jordan, Rhys, Adam, Frazer and George. Richard Dwyer also came close as his shot was cleared off the line. Thanks go to all the boys and mums and dads for their help and support. Squad: Natty John, Harry Goforth, Billy Truman, Jack Parkinson, George Taylor, Jordan Cornick, Ben Howells, Adam Davidson, Rhys Davis, Frazer Finlay, Ryan Towsend, Malley Paxton, Richard Dwyer.
TENBY U8s 1 CAMROSE U8s 0
It was a 9.30 am kick-off at Camrose for Tenby AFC Under 8s last Saturday morning. A sunny day saw everyone in high spirits, with Tenby's team eager to win. They were to play 20 minutes each way against Camrose, who had plenty more subs than we did. Tenby never tired and showed constant determination throughout. Many chances were created from the likes of Toby Poole and Tom Murphy, but somehow the ball just couldn't find the back of the net. James Harris was in perfect form once again with his goalkeeping hands and great saves. Elliot Moorhouse and Tom James tackled well and never gave up fighting for the ball. Daniel Wainwright tackled hard and had a good shot at goal and, with the help of Daniel Murray, good attacking was produced by the young Tenby side. Ben Palin fought hard with constant running up the pitch to give support to his team-mates, while Jack Broadhurst, strong in defence, also battled hard against the opposition. Tenby's break came in the second half with a fabulous goal from Toby Poole to put them ahead 1-0, and that was how it remained at the final whistle.
A big thank you must go to Matthew Broadhurst for his dedication as the team coach and to all parents making the trip to Camrose.
Team: Jack Broadhurst, Thomas Murphy, Toby Poole, Tom James, Daniel Wainwright, Daniel Murray, Ben Palin, James Harris, Elliot Moorhouse.
