Tenby Under 9s A 7 Solva Under 9s 0

Tenby A were back to their winning ways this week with a convincing home win against an improved Solva side. The form book suggested this would be a one- sided fixture. However, the visitors from the north of the county started the game brightly, and Daniel Evans, in the Tenby goal, was the first of the 'keepers to be called into action. The Tenby boys possibly had their minds on their tournament at the Millennium Stadium the following day, as they took a while to get up to full speed. After a few near misses, the home side finally opened the scoring midway through the first half. Declan Escott made a run into the area. Finding himself cornered by defenders, he laid the ball back to Dylan Rees, who fired in an unstoppable shot. Kim Paramanand was unlucky not to immediately increase the score. He beat four defenders, only to have the ball plucked from his toe by the Solva goalie. Moments later he struck the underside of the crossbar, and the ball bounced just in front of the line. However, the home side didn't have to wait long for their second. Owen Coombs made a positive run from defence and played a long pass into the path of Dylan Rees, who swept the ball into the corner of the goal. The home side then won possession from the kick-off, and again found the prolific striker, who duly completed his hat-trick. Following an accomplished first half performance, Spencer Williams was rested in the second half, with Tom Dyson coming on in midfield and Dylan Rees dropping back into defence. The rearranged formation did nothing to slow the home side down, and they soon increased the lead when Dylan Price put in a low cross which was tapped in by Declan Escott at the far post. Dylan Price also created Tenby's fifth goal with a superb first time pass that put Declan Escott clean through to confidently score his second of the match. Despite Tenby's comfortable lead, Solva still competed strongly in the middle of the park, and Tom Dyson and James Brace both had to battle hard to keep the Seasiders' momentum going. To Solva's credit, they threw more players forward towards the end of the game in a bid to get a goal back. However, Owen Coombs stayed solid at the back - winning ball after ball, and firing a series of powerful passes up to the Tenby attack. This freed Dylan Rees to make several excellent runs, and he duly created Tenby's sixth goal with a great cross that was cooly finished by Dylan Price. The striker then doubled his personal tally with a close range shot, following another great pass from Declan Escott on the right. As always, thanks to Nicky Rees, match referee, and to Park Road Chip Shop, kit sponsors for the Tenby Under 9 squad.

CLARBESTON ROAD U16s 1 TENBY U16s 8

Tenby went ahead in the first minute after a sweeping move, when Adam Johns scored from close range. This 1-0 advantage lasted all through the first half, although Tenby put tremendous pressure on the Clarbeston Road goal, and came close to adding to their lead when Adam Johns again, Mikey Boswell, Sam Christopher and Rob Colley, who hit the post, were unlucky from close range. Clarbeston Road struck back dangerously on two or three occasions, but the play was broken up confidently by Billy Vaughan and Brett Evans at the back, and their passes to Scott Helmich and Sam Christopher made the Tenby right side of attack look very dangerous. When the ball was switched to the left, the speed of Adam Johns looked likely to produce results, and the support he had from behind by Kurt Walsh gave Tenby the width in attack all successful teams need. Aaron Goldsmith and Josh Bevan battled well in the middle of what was becoming a heavy pitch to blot out most of the attacks that Clarbeston could offer. With Richard Thomas in their goal having only a few touches in the first half, Tenby's 1-0 lead down the slope was a small return for a lot of effort. Clarbeston Road scored early in the second half through the middle when Richard Thomas just failed to finger-tip the ball to safety, but Mikey Boswell soon put Tenby back in front when he powered in a shot from just inside the penalty area. The scoreline of 2-1 made the match look more realistic again, and Tenby then began to play their best quality football. Mikey Boswell added two more goals to bring the score to 4-1, and during this period of the match, Luke Dedman, James Howells and then Michael Halligan gradually came on as substitutes to keep up the tempo of the Tenby attacking play. Adam Johns, whose attacking runs into the home penalty area were causing chaos, made the score 5 -1 and Michael Halligan lobbed over the home goalkeeper from 35 yards or so for a sensational sixth Tenby goal. Aaron Goldsmith was picking up many of the loose balls in and around the Clarbeston Road penalty area, and added the seventh for Tenby. Luke Dedman, after some powerful runs in the mud, fired in a low shot to make the final score 8-1 for his side. Tenby squad: Richard Thomas, Scott Helmich, Brett Evans, Billy Vaughan, Brett Evans, Kurt Walsh, Sam Christopher, Aaron Goldsmith, Josh Bevan, Adam Johns, Rob Colley, Mikey Boswell, Luke Dedman, James Howells, Michael Halligan. Thanks to Nick for running the line. Tenby Picnic Basket player of the match: Scott Helmich.

PENNAR ROBINS U9s (A) 3 TENBY U9s (B) 0

Another perfect day for football. Only a week ago Tenby had achieved a great 3-3 draw against one of the strongest sides in their division. This week, however, things just didn't get started. Liam Bowen hurled himself around in goal as Tenby came under sustained pressure. Daniel Tiesing, Tom Harries and Luke Hartland had to concede a number of corners, and from one such corner, Pennar reacted quickest to score their first goal. Will Davies, Sean Conbeer and Henrick Jaakola never stopped running and did their best to send Adam Muskett in on the Pennar goal, but luck was not on his side, with a couple of shots going just wide. Back came Pennar and a through ball sent their winger running at the Tenby backs. He cut outside first, then into the Tenby area, before placing a shot wide of the advancing goalie. Will Davies went off at half-time to be replaced by Chris Hinman. The Tenby players seemed to be quicker to react in the second half, with Henrick Jaakola in particular leading by example. Sean Conbeer ran through lots of tackles and Adam Muskett didn't let heavy tackles hold him back. Once again he was unlucky not to score with a couple of snap shots. Then, just as Tenby looked as if they were getting back in the game, Pennar played a long ball into the Tenby area. No Pennar players were there, there seemed to be no danger, but as a Tenby player aimed to hack the ball clear, he sliced it very neatly into his own net. The Tenby boys never stopped trying or running, but it just wasn't going to be their day and it finished 3-0 to Pennar. A friendly was played a little later on involving some players who had not taken part in the first game. Ryan Kent had some great shots on goals in this game, but the deadlock couldn't be broken and it finished 0-0.

TENBY U13s 6 ST. CLEARS U13s 1

Holders Tenby Under 13s, sponsored by Tenby Cycles and Skateboards, marched into the next round of the cup, after this excellent win over last season's semi-finalist, St. Clears. Captain, Patrick Elliott, got the Seasiders off to a flying start in the 10th minute when his side were awarded a free-kick 20 metres from goal. Elliott's curling shot deceived the Saints' goalie and, although he managed to get his hands to the ball, couldn't prevent it from going in. The visitors recovered from this early set-back and drew level within five minutes, when following a good run and cross from the left wing, their speedy centre forward nipped in between two defenders to slide the ball past Tenby goalie, Jake Roberts. Tenby worked both wings to great effect and this resulted in them regaining the lead. Alex Heesom, Phil Horsley and Gareth Warlow all linked well down the right and when Warlow finally crossed the ball in, Aaron Roberts produced a touch of brilliance to score. Standing some 20 metres in front of goal, he deftly flicked the ball up in to the air and volleyed it into the far corner of the net. Curtis Hurlow and Ashley Smith both went close with long-range efforts, before the home side increased their lead. Heesom won a 50-50 ball inside the Saints' half and sent it over the top for Warlow to scamper after a shoot past the 'keeper. St. Clears came out for the second half all fired up and almost reduced the deficit, but Jake Roberts pulled off an amazing double save to rescue his team. However, Tenby raced to the other end of the pitch, this time on the left-hand side. Dan Edwards exchanged passes with Smith and then found Jordan Richards in space. Richards beat his defender and his cross was met at the near post by Roberts, to claim his second of the day. Tenby were in full flight at this stage and introduced fresh legs in the shape of Rob Fairlie and Chris Millward. Centre half, Greg Lees-Griffiths, was now adding strength and support to the midfield and on one such excursion threaded the ball through to Millward. Millward skipped past one defender and, with only one more to beat, unselfishly squared the ball for Warlow to score. With five minutes remaining, Millward grabbed the sixth goal after good work by Fairlie, Horsley and Hurlow. This was a tremendous team performance by Tenby and they now progress to the semi-final stage of the cup. Tenby side: J. Roberts, A. Heesom, G. Lees- Griffiths, P. Elliott, D. Edwards, P. Horsley, C. Hurlow, A. Roberts, A. Smith, J. Richards, G. Warlow, C. Millward, R. Fairlie.
