The Tenby Cycle and Skateboard sponsored Tenby Under 12s entertained Camrose at the Clicketts, last Saturday, in ideal playing conditions. The home side recorded their fourth win of the season, after producing their best performance to date. Both sides looked a little apprehensive to start, but once settled, produced quality football. Tenby drew first blood when Jordan Richards cut inside his marker, on the bye line, and found Josh Koop in support. Koop curled a sublime shot into the top corner of the goal. Unfortunately, two Camrose players collided with each other, resulting in the game being held up for almost 10 minutes. The game resumed with Tenby on the attack once more and when Gareth Warlow raced on to Phil Horsley's long ball, the diminutive striker was quick enough to outpace the visiting defence to score. It wasn't all Tenby, though; Camrose created several chances themselves, but found the home defence in superb form. Just before the break, a Horsley cross was nudged on by Richards, for Ashley Smith to side-foot home. Tenby increased their lead five minutes into the second half when Smith turned provider for Richards to score with a low drive. The home side were well in command and when Richards picked up his second, with a glancing header from Patrick Elliott's corner, the game looked all but over. However, the never-say-die attitude of the Camrose team thought otherwise. While the Tenby players pushed forward trying to get on the score sheet, the visitors counter-attacked and pulled a goal back. Richards restored his side's five-goal advantage when he deflected a Rob Fairlie cross past a helpless Camrose 'keeper. The red and blacks then scored possibly the best goal of the match. Warlow again raced on to a long ball, this time from Greg Lees-Griffiths, and deftly chipped the advancing 'keeper. Tenby were again guilty of pushing too far forward and left gaps at the back, which the visitors exploited to double their score. Tenby side: J. Roberts, A. Heesom, G. Lees-Griffiths, P. Elliott, N. Jones, A. Smith, P. Horsley, J. Richards, C. Hurlow, J. Koop, G. Warlow, O. Worley, R. Fairlie, D. Edwards.
TENBY U13s 8 CAMROSE 2
Tenby got off to a slow start at home to Camrose with the first 10 minutes of play being quite even. It wasn't until Camrose conceded an own goal that the home team seemed to settle down. Tenby had most of the play in the first-half with some good passing football and they went into the second-half with a comfortable lead. Camrose showed plenty of resolve in the second-half and managed to shake the home team with a couple of late goals, but Tenby finished the game as outright winners.
TENBY U13s 9 CAMROSE 0
Tenby went to Camrose on the back of a win in the league, so they were looking for a good result in the cup. On what was a very windy day, Tenby started the game very tentatively and it took nearly 15 minutes for them to score their first goal. Camrose stopped Tenby in their tracks with some solid defensive work in the first-half. Camrose again mounted a charge in the second-half and managed to force a couple of free-kicks around Tenby's box, even getting the ball over the line, to find the referee had already blown the whistle for the kick to be retaken. With Tenby failing to make good use of the wind in the first-half, they were then playing against it in the second-half, but by keeping the ball on the ground, they managed to score more goals to run out clear winners. Goal scorers were Tom Baker (2), Tom Nicholas, Alex Harley (2), Daryl Mansbridge (3) and Ianto Griffiths. Tenby squad: Luke Hamilton, Sam Ormond, Lloyd Thomas, Tom Powell, Billy Davies, Alex Harley, Rhys Hewson, Tom Nicholas, Daryl Mansbridge, Lewis Hodgson, Tom Baker, Ianto Griffiths, Joe Richards, Brad Jenkins. Thanks to Charles and Remi for coaching the boys.
TENBY U11s 10 CAREW U11s 1
The Tenby Under 11s dominated this local derby from the outset. Elliot Scotcher opened the scoring in minutes, the result of a Greg Palin corner, but good Carew goalkeeping prevented Iwan Izzard from scoring from long range. Tenby's midfield of Will Cowan, Jake Proctor, Palin and Scotcher then piled on the pressure, providing quality ball to striker Billy Christopher, who scored three goals in quick succession. Carew showed their fighting spirit and pushed forward at every opportunity, only to be dealt with by the hard-working Rob Luly, Izzard and Shaun in defence. Scotcher found the back of the net with his left foot, bringing the score to 5-0 at half-time. Tenby rearranged their side in the second-half, with Dan Storer coming out of goal and switching places with Luly, Alex Bayley on as striker and Owen Bateman in defence. Carew scored within minutes, but then Tenby went on a goal-scoring rampage, Storer and Bayley getting their names on the scoresheet, swiftly followed by a great solo effort by Proctor. Scotcher got his hat-trick, before Christopher went one better to score his fourth of the morning. It was a great performance by Tenby, but credit must also go to Carew who kept their heads up and battled hard until the end.
TENBY UNDER 8s 9 SOLVA UNDER 8s 0 Tenby maintained their 100 per cent record in the Pembrokeshire Under Eights League with another big win at the Clicketts on Saturday morning. An edgy start by the home team led to an early corner for the visitors. However, normal service was soon resumed as Declan Escott latched onto a loose ball in the middle of the park, beat two defenders and placed his shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the Solva goal. Scott Ferney soon made it two-nil with a neat side-foot after a low cross from the right. He then added Tenby's third, running through the Solva defence before firing impressively into the roof of the net. A series of excellent saves from the Solva 'keeper kept the home team at bay until just before half-time when Declan Escott slotted in number four. Tenby goalkeeper, Jannik Coop, went out on pitch for the second half, and as the home side reorganised their shape, Solva began to fight back. Tenby got caught on the break, but tidy defending from Dylan Rees denied the visitors a consolation goal. As the game became more open, Tom Harries found room for a long shot that was diverted into the goal by midfielder Owen Coombs. After the restart, the midfielder made a run down the right and put in a long, looping cross that was headed firmly home by Tom Dyson to make it six-nil. The visitors continued to battle hard, but could do nothing to stop number seven from Declan Escott, who picked up the ball just inside the left goal-line and lobbed the 'keeper from what seemed an impossible angle. Tenby continued to press forward, with Charlie Flockton making several good runs. And, following a goal-mouth scramble, Tom Harries got the final touch to score goal eight. Undaunted, Solva managed a great shot of their own, which was just tipped round the post for a corner. Fluid passing from the home side quickly moved the action back to the Solva end. And as the 'keeper came out of his area to block a long through ball, he was dispossessed by Tom Dyson whose confident strike made the final score nine-nil. Thanks to Park Road Fish and Chips, sponsors of the Tenby Under Eights new kit. And a big thanks to everyone behind the scenes for another Saturday morning spent preparing hot dogs and tea!
KILGETTY U10s 0 TENBY U10s 25
After several weeks without a game, the full strength team travelled to Kilgetty on a sunny autumn morning where a goal straight from kick-off scored by Sam set the trend for the remainder of a goal-fest for all the Tenby players. In a game where the ball rarely crossed into the Tenby half, the boys maintained possession, scoring generously and, apart from some glaring misses, the goal tally would have been even higher. Top scorers were Daniel and Hugo with five each; Jack and David with three each; Elliott, Sam and Rhys with two each and Tom, Toby and Corey with a goal apiece. A wonderful display of goal scoring from a prolific team. However, the score should not detract from the spirit in which the game was played. The girls from Kilgetty were a credit to their team and their sportsmanship was a lesson for all who played. The England captain later in the afternoon could have taken a lesson from them! They tackled like demons and the various goalies prevented the score from reaching even more epic proportions and Colin from having to grow extra fingers and toes to count them all. Good luck to the young ladies of Kilgetty in their new league - in team spirit alone they deserve success. Well done, and thanks for the after-match toast! Squad: Scott Cowan, Toby Rossiter, Corey Morris, Rhys Nicholas, Sam Butler, Tom Koop, Jack Murphy, Hugo Wellum, Daniel Fairlie, Elliott Goldsmith and David Webb.
