CWMTWRCH U14s 7
TENBY U14s 8
With five regular first team players unavailable for this fixture, Tenby faced the long journey to the Swansea Valley with some trepidation. However, the strength in depth of the Tenby squad plus the sheer determination of the boys, meant that the Tenby youngsters secured a place in the semi-final of the West Wales Cup after an amazing 15-goal game.
To Cwmtwrch's surprise, Tenby went 3-0 up, courtesy of Sam Christopher, who scored a fantastic hat-trick in the first 10 minutes.
The home side woke up and pulled back two goals, both of which looked suspiciously offside.
Both sides played some good football and Cwm pulled another goal back to level the score. Not to be outdone, Mikey Boswell put Tenby ahead once more, only to see Cwm equalise again before half-time, 4-4.
The second-half promised to be some game, and it was. Cwm scored from a penalty, which 'keeper Andrew Stretton almost got to. This put them in front for the first time in the match. Tenby dug deep and Christopher equalised.
Cwm went ahead again, but just before the end, Billy Vaughan put through an excellent ball that Christopher latched on to, to even things up again. Six-six at full-time.
Tenby started to dominate during the first period of extra-time. Captain Aaron Goldsmith and Adam Johns put in some solid tackling in midfield, while Vaughan and Michael Halligan supplied the strikers with some good ball.
One such move allowed Boswell to put Tenby ahead. He added another soon after, when he nodded in from a Luke Dedman corner, 8-6 at half-time.
Cwm still kept the pressure on. They pulled a goal back in the second-half, but with four minutes to go, Tenby defended frantically. Gavin Kinsey and Brett Evans played their hearts out for their team and Jordan Lloyd found his form again for this crucial match.
The away side managed to hold on to their slim lead, much to the delight of their supporters, who were left breathless and exhausted after witnessing such an incredible match.
Tenby: Andrew Stretton, Gavin Kinsey, Brett Evans, Luke Dedman, Aaron Goldsmith (capt.), Adam John, Sam Christopher, Billy Vaughan, Mikey Boswell, Michael Halligan, Jordan Lloyd, Jason Gregory.
CAMROSE U12s 0
TENBY U12s 7
Tenby's 'Jekyll and Hyde' Under 12s, sponsored by Tenby House, travelled to Camrose on Saturday to play a team that had lost only once this season.
The Tenby players put in a performance that Charles and Remi knew they had in them. It started at the back, with a strong defence, led by Lloyd Thomas and Brad Jenkins, that didn't give the Camrose forwards a sniff. Joe Richards, in goal, also kept Tenby's first clean sheet of the season and started some good counter-attacks with his quick ball and thinking.
A big improvement was the aggression and strength of the midfield, led admirably in the centre by captain Alex Harley, while either side of him, Tom Nicholas and Rhys Hewson covered every inch of the pitch in attack and at the back whenever they lost the ball.
This, combined with the speed of Daryl and Billy up front, put the wind up the Camrose team, who had beaten Tenby earlier in the season. But it was different this time, as half-time arrived with Tenby already 6-0 up - and it could easily have been 10!
In the second half, playing uphill, Tenby added one more goal through Daryl, to complete his hat-trick and an excellent 7-0 win.
It was a great team performance, combined with an excellent attitude.
Scorers: Daryl Mansbridge 3, Rhys Hewson 2, Alex Harley, Tom Nicholas.
CAREW UNDER 11s 0 TENBY UNDER 11s 9
Carew was the venue for this week's match for the Tenby Cycles and Skateboard sponsored Tenby Under 11s.
Tenby dominated the game, which was played in bitterly cold conditions, during the first half and did everything but find the back of the net. Good defending and excellent goalkeeping by Carew, coupled with some wayward shooting from Tenby, kept the score goal less.
Jordan Richards had the best chance when his shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced out. Tenby finished the half one-nil up thanks to a fortunate own goal.
The second half continued as the first had finished, with the home side penned inside their own half. Tenby again bombarded Carew's goal and it was only a matter of time for a goal to be scored.
Gareth Warlow thought he had scored the first, but his shot struck the angle between post and bar. The goal eventually came via Josh Koop and like the proverbial bus, once one came they all came.
Koop finished with four, Gareth Warlow and Greg Lees-Griffiths, whose shot took a wicked deflection, got one each and Leo Moreland was on hand to tap in two.
Tenby side: J. Roberts, M. Davie, G. Lees-Griffiths, A. Heesom, J. Richards, C. Hurlow, B. Green, L. Moreland, G. Warlow, J. Koop.
