GIRLS FOOTBALL

UNDER 14s: Mixed fortunes again for the Under 14s girls.

After a hard fought game with Pembroke Boro, the girls lost 1-0, although Annie Davies had several close attempts. Jenna Wright tackled well in defence and Danielle Jones covered plenty of ground.

In the next match, Kaylie Davies put Tenby ahead and thanks to two superb saves by 'keeper Lauren Wright, the Hive were unable to equalise and Tenby picked up three points.

Squad - Lauren Wright, Jenna Wright, Annie Davies, Kaylie Davies, Danielle Jones.

UNDER12s: Tenby had all three teams in action, with the Bees and the Tornadoes playing each other.

This was a very even game, with Cheek scoring for the Tornadoes and Leila May replying for the Bees.

Lowri Lewis and Chantelle Johnson played well in goal for the Bees and Tornadoes, respectively.

The Bees faced Pembroke next and were well beaten 5-0. Shani Escort and Zoe Griffiths covered the middle of the pitch, with Lucia Fecci and Lucy May tackling in defence. Leila May was Tenby's lonely striker.

The Tornadoes' second match was against Neyland Nomads. The Tornadoes won 6-0, with Joanna Rowe and Cheek both scoring hat-tricks. Taylor Field-Thomas was superb in defence in both of the Tornadoes' matches and Kerri Lewis is improving with every game.

Tenby Jays found themselves a player short this week and were pleased when Natalie Johnson from the U10s agreed to play in goal.

She kept two clean sheets and started many attacking movements.

Danielle Jones and Sophie John both scored against Neyland Nomads in their 2-0 victory.

The game against Prendergast was a very torrid affair, with Victoria Brace and Sophie John battling for every ball. Anna Doble came close to scoring on several occasions and Danielle Jones defended well in this 0-0 draw.

TENBY U14s 7

The Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored Tenby Under 14s got this match underway having made the journey the previous week only to be told the game was off due to a frozen pitch. The Seasiders got off to a good start against the strong wind, with Clem Boswell and Luke Probert going close with shots just wide of the target.

However, it was the Saints who opened the scoring on eight minutes with a superb shot into the roof of Danny Harries' net giving him no chance.

Tenby's reply was swift when the inspirational Boswell played an inch-perfect cross to the feet of David Jones who fired a stunning shot into the corner of the net.

After a period of 'ping pong' between the two teams in midfield, Matthew Jones played a superb 50-yard crossfield pass that cut right through the home defence, out to Jamie Robinson, who brilliantly controlled the ball and fired a breathtaking shot into the net from the acutest of angles.

With the strong wind behind them, the Saints put Tenby under pressure and forced an equaliser to make it 2-2. They then took the lead, before it was Tenby's turn to pull the score back when Ashley Prior netted to make it 3-3 at half-time.

With the wind now behind them, Tenby surged forward after the change around and pressurised a home defender into kicking the ball over his own 'keeper's head to restore Tenby's lead.

Another good move saw Boswell hit the post and two minutes later Tenby were awarded a free-kick after a foul on Matthew Jones. His kick was saved by the 'keeper, but he dropped the ball and David Jones's predatorial instincts saw him pounce to stab it into the net and put Tenby 5-3 ahead.

Inexplicably and against the run of play, the Saints mounted a seemingly harmless attack, and a Tenby defensive mix-up allowed them to score to pull back to 5-4.

Incredibly the same thing happened again two minutes later with the Tenby defence in total disarray and the Saints scored the equaliser for 5-5.

It seemed like Tenby's defence had undone all the hard work achieved by the forwards with their lack of concentration and inability to play the simple ball. However, in true Tenby style, with the minutes ticking away, Boswell scored a delightful goal, and with one minute left on the clock, up popped Prior to score number seven and secure a crucial three points.

This was a hard fought game and the commitment of the whole side was good, but Tenby cannot afford to give the ball away so cheaply in the season's final run-in if they are to continue to challenge for the league title, and the defence must be more positive and improve on their communication. Nevertheless, a satisfactory result from a tough fixture.

Tenby team: Danny Harries, Ben Messenger, David Saunders, Ashley Murdoch, Damian Walters (capt.), Jamie Robinson, Clem Boswell, Matthew Jones, Luke Probert, Ashley Prior, David Jones.

HUNDLETON U13s 2

Tenby went into this game knowing that every game is like a cup final and results are important if they want some silverware in the league this year.

On a lovely sunny day, but with a stiff breeze blowing, Tenby opened strongly and took the lead when a corner by Sam Christopher was headed in by Mickey Boswell.

Tenby continued to apply the pressure, but chances went begging, until 'Birthday Boy' Michael Halligan put the home side 2-0 to the good.

Hundleton, to their credit, broke through a few times, but good tackling by Jordan Lloyd and Aaron Goldsmith kept them out.

Tenby's midfield of Adam Johns, Gavin Kinsey, Henry Boot and Michael Halligan made vital passes through to the forwards of Sam Christopher and Mickey Boswell, with Tenby's defence of Joel Pendall, Aaron Goldsmith, Jordan Lloyd and Scott Helmich dealing with everything that came their way, along with stand-in 'keeper Joe Scourfield who was commanding in his box.

Tenby finally scored again when Sam Christopher went on a run and fired in a shot which the 'keeper couldn't hold, and by half-time it was 4-0 as a Michael Boswell shot rebounded off the 'keeper for Michael Halligan to take very well.

The second-half started with Tenby now against the wind and after another corner it was almost 5-0, but for a clearance off the line and then the bar.

However, Tenby did score another two goals from Sam Christopher to make it 6-0.

After the re-start, Hundleton broke clear, only for a defender to commit a foul, enabling one of the visiting players to score with cracking free-kick which gave the 'keeper no chance.

Mickey then scored again, before Hundleton replied with their second of the game to make it 7-2.

Tenby brought on Ritchie Coleman for Henry Boot and he got into the game straight away with two shots on goal.

By now Tenby were well in control and Mickey Boswell broke through once again and slipped it past the 'keeper.

Sam again scored and Mickey scored the last two to make it 11-2 to Tenby.

Thanks go to Remi for refereeing, Nick for running the line and all parents and supporters for their help.
