Although with only nine players, Tenby Ladies started off on Sunday in positive style. The players shrugged off the very cold conditions and the standard of play was a credit to both teams who played out a well refereed match with plenty of action in the final stages.

Tenby were under pressure in the first half, allowing Goodwick to shoot from outside the box, but were relieved to see the shots go wide or rise above the crossbar.

Tenby still attacked when they intercepted the ball, but the lack of support for Nicola Aston and Michaela Bevan allowed the visitors' defence to reorganise.

Kayleigh Davies ran well as Tenby's single front runner, hassling Goodwick's defence, while there was good support for the midfielders from the defence of Louise Cooper, Cally Roberts and Carrie Slack, who showed their class when distributing the ball forward.

Tenby were reduced to eight players when Speedie was taken ill in the first half. This meant that they had to work even harder than before.

Angharad Nicholls put in important tackles in the middle to stop any counter-attack.

The lack of numbers in the Tenby attack meant that brilliant crosses from Nicola Aston and Michaela Bevan went begging as they rolled along the Goodwick box.

Angela Nicholls wasn't put under any pressure in the first half, but was always on her toes.

The second half arrived and Tenby were confident after their first half performance.

Michaela Bevan and Kayleigh Davies switched positions, with Michaela chasing every overhead ball put through from the defence. This resulted in a goal when Michaela, seeing the Goodwick 'keeper off her line, fancied her chances of scoring and duly did so.

Tenby were playing very defensively, inviting Goodwick into their half, and the three points were secured when Angela Nicholls committed herself to saving what was their best chance of scoring.

Tenby held off Goodwick's chances, with Cally Roberts and Louise Cooper sticking like glue to their opposition.

The final whistle blew and Tenby were fairly rewarded their three points.

TENBY U16s 3

MERLINS BRIDGE U16s 0

Tenby Under 16s, sponsored by Tees-R-Us, hosted Merlins Bridge at the Clicketts last Saturday and collected all three points in a very entertaining match. The game was very evenly contested, with the home side creating probably the better chances throughout.

Tenby encamped in the visitors' half for the opening 20 minutes, but were denied on many occasions by a well organised defence and both Jack Christopher and Liam Robson saw good efforts well saved by the visiting 'keeper.

The Bridge looked dangerous on the break, but the home defence were also in fine form, with acting skipper Dan Cope marshalling his troops very well.

The breakthrough came 10 minutes before the interval when a through ball from Robson found Christopher who placed his shot wide of the 'keeper.

Bruce Tasker almost doubled the home side's score straight from the restart, when he superbly volleyed a Perry Broadhurst cross, which just skimmed the top of the bar.

The best chance Merlins Bridge had during the first-half also saw them hitting the woodwork.

The Seasiders knew that a single goal would not be enough and needed to score early on in the second period to create some breathing space.

The Bridge defence made it very difficult for Tenby, but pressure eventually paid off when Robson managed to deflect a Lloyd Wilson shot past a helpless visiting 'keeper.

It was Wilson again who battled through a couple of would-be tacklers to set up Christopher this time, but he saw his effort excellently tipped over the bar.

Merlins Bridge reshuffled their side in order to reduce the deficit, but Tenby absorbed this period of pressure. Robson made the game safe when he latched on to a loose ball inside the box and turned his defender to slide his shot under the advancing 'keeper.

Thanks to Pete for refereeing and to Hillings of Tenby for sponsoring the match balls.
