NEYLAND U16s 1

TENBY U16s 6

Tenby Under 16s, sponsored by Tees-R.-Us, bounced back from last week's disappointment at Fishguard and recorded an excellent win at Neyland.

Playing up the slight gradient, and with the strong breeze, the visitors camped in the home half for the majority of the opening period, but found it hard to break a resilient defence. Perry Broadhurst, Jack Christopher, Ben Field-Thomas and Bruce Tasker all had efforts well saved and it was left to the hard working Lloyd Wilson, late on in the half, to crack a shot from the edge of the box to open the Seasiders account.

Like a proverbial bus the second was not long afterwards, this time courtesy of Christopher from a similar position.

With time running out a Tasker cross was excellently headed goal bound by Christopher, only for it to be superbly tipped over the bar.

Neyland then made a rare excursion near the Tenby penalty area which resulted in a free kick and although the visitors cleared the first cross, the second found an unmarked player at the far post to reduce the deficit right on half time.

Tenby expected the onslaught at the beginning of the second half and once again their defence of Mo Sofan, Dann Rowell, Ben Field-Thomas and captain Dan Cope more than held their opponents at bay.

A quick break out between David Otton and Ben Quartermaine found Wilson on the edge of the box and his curling shot into the top left hand corner was simply brilliant.

This goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Neyland and when Tasker found the time and space, 10 minutes later, to score with a low shot wide of the keeper, the game was all but over.

Sonny Phillips, Jac Worley and Liam Robson all left the bench at the expense of Broadhurst, Quartermaine and Christopher, with Robson scoring number five with a neat half volley.

Worley's contribution was to provide the perfect pass to Tasker to score the final goal, which he did at the second attempt.

Tenby team: L. Hurlow , M. Sofan, D. Cope, B. Field-Thomas, D. Rowell, P. Broadhurst, L. Wilson, D. Otton, B. Quartermaine, B. Tasker, J. Christopher, L. Robson, J. Worley, S. Phillips.

HAKIN U10s 0

The Rumbleway Caravan Park sponsored Tenby Under 10s started their last league game of the season determined to stay unbeaten and get eight goals in the process to reach the magical 100 for the year (writes Florence C. Smythe).

Tenby attacked from the kick off with some excellent play from the midfield trio of Curtis Hurlow, Phil Horsley and Ashley Smith providing quality ball for strikers Alex Heesom, Gareth Warlow and Joe Koop.

It wasn't long before the first goal came via great play by Greg Lees-Griffiths, Horsley, Heesom and finally finished off by Smith. One down, seven to go.

The next score was total class. A good throw by goalie Jake Roberts, flicked on by Matthew Davie was collected by Koop who sprinted down the line put in a superb cross for Heesom to head home.

It was Heesom again with the third, now only five to go. The provider now turned scorer with Koop showing great individual skill and a deadly finish just before the break.

Slightly shell-shocked after the first period, Hakin came out for the second half much brighter and caused the home defence, of Daniel Edwards, Davie and Lees-Griffiths, a few problems. But the visitors best chance was from a corner which saw Roberts make an outstanding save.

Daniel Edwards went on one of his mazy runs and eventually released Warlow to tuck the ball away with his usual confidence.

Good inter passing between Greg Lees-Griffiths and Smith resulted in Koop getting his second of the game and Hurlow provided the pass which saw Heesom get a very well deserved hat trick.

The elusive eighth and final goal came from a move which involved nearly all the players and eventually fell at Horsley's' feet, a couple of neat touches, then whack in to the goal for number 100.

Although scoring a lot of goals, credit must also be given to all the 'keepers and defenders who only conceded six all season. Well done boys!

Tenby side: J. Roberts, G. Lees-Griffiths, M. Davie, D. Edwards, P. Horsley, C. Hurlow, A. Smith, A. Heesom, G. Warlow, J. Koop.

Tenby Tornadoes were the only U12s playing this week.

MERLINS BRIDGE U13s 3

Tenby found Merlins Bridge in defiant form for long periods of this closely fought match.

With an easy win behind them from the previous week, Tenby went into a sate of shock when Merlins Bridge found the home defence without cover to go into a 1-0 lead after five minutes of the match.

Seemingly unable to find the right sort of rhythm, Tenby relied on long passes forward to strikers Sam Christopher and Mikey Boswell who were heavily outnumbered as part of the visitors' tactics to restrict the score. Scoring chances which fell to the home team in the early stages were missed, either due to off target shooting or good goal keeping by Richard Reed.

Tenby's efforts to get back into the match were rewarded when Luke Dedman played the ball forward for Mikey Boswell to equalise from close range.

Tenby's confidence seemed to return with the 1-1 scoreline but several players were struggling to free themselves of their midfield markers, and Merlins Bridge cleared the danger and counter attacked on several occasions.

Tenby went further ahead when Adam John passed to Mikey Boswell who shot high into the net, but the score was brought back to 2-2 when Merlins Bridge scored with a cross shot to which Richard Thomas got a hand.

In the 10 minutes leading up to half-time, Tenby began to find gaps in the visitors' defence and an Aaron Goldsmith drive from 15 yards following a corner by Luke Dedman, and a penalty by Mikey Boswell after Sam Christopher was brought down took the scoreline to 4-2 for the home team, in spite of their hesitancy when only the consistency of Jordan Lloyd and Joe Scourfield in central defence saved them from further embarrassment by conceding more goals against the run of play.

Tenby's sluggish approach to the match allowed the game to remain in the balance when the visitors brought the game to 4-3, and only when full backs Scott Helmich and Brett Evans supported the attack more, did they have the numbers at the front to outwit a packed Merlins Bridge defence.

Adam Johns cleared a shot off the line to keep Tenby ahead and his tackling was an important feature of the game.

Luke Dedman sprang to life late in the match, particularly when supported by the industrious Aaron Goldsmith, and he began to unsettle the visitors' defence with his powerful runs.

The best of these saw him loft the ball over Richard Reed for a dramatic goal, which brought the score to 5-3 and gave the home team the cushion they needed.

Tenby were more composed for the last five minutes during which Mikey Boswell wrong footed the goalkeeper to score with an air of superiority, which took the match to Tenby, but left their supporters breathing a sigh of relief as things were very close midway through the second half.

Tenby team: Richard Thomas; Scott Helmich; Brett Evans; Joe Scourfield; Jordan Lloyd; Michael Halligan; Aaron Goldsmith; Sam Christopher; Mikey Boswell, Richard Jones; Luke Dedman; Adam John; Joel Pendel.

Thanks to Remi for refereeing a very closely contested match.

TENBY TIGERS 2

PEMBROKE WEENY BOPPERS 0

Tenby looked very much the stronger team with Gracie, in defence, and Ellen, in goal, rarely troubled.

Tenby worked hard with Bethan looking lively up front. The constant pressure resulted in goals from Sophie and Nia.

The Pembroke defence continued to have plenty of to do and Natalie almost made it three!

Tenby U14s 11 Hundleton U14s nil

On Saturday the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored Tenby Under 14s started this game in bright sunshine after a long pre-match team talk assessing their recent inconsistent form and player commitment.

The 'heart-to-heart' seemed to be paying dividends when Ashley Prior scored for the home team after only four minutes. Tenby kept up the early pressure and went two up on 10 minutes when Prior headed his second from a Jamie Robinson corner. This seemed to be a new Tenby team from previous weeks, the same team ability-wise, but with renewed heart and spirit.

Tenby's defence of Ben Messenger, Robinson, Ashley Murdoch and Damian Walters were looking totally invincible, all working for each other and encouraging instead of the arguing of previous weeks. Prior completed his hat-trick when Clem Boswell threaded a delightful ball through for him to run on to and he skilfully fired past the Hundleton 'keeper.

Matthew Jones was instrumental in Tenby's fourth when he set up Matthew Fleming for a clinical strike past the floundering visiting 'keeper. Boswell and Jones both went wide with shots and during this period of pressure in the visitors' box, Boswell picked up a loose ball on the edge and crossed for Prior to head in Tenby's fifth and his fourth goal.

Half-time, and what half that was with Tenby having played a brilliant passing game and every single player working for and encouraging each other.

The second half was only minutes old when David Jones fired across a precision cross for Fleming to convert Tenby's sixth goal. David Saunders came on for Luke Probert who had an outstanding first half, and Robinson pushed forward into midfield. Tenby's fine footballing game continued where it had left off in the first half and David Jones scored a delightful goal with a shot from the edge of the box over the advancing 'keeper's arms.

Jones then popped up again for Tenby's eighth just before Boswell missed an open goal after Matthew Jones and Prior had worked two brilliant one-twos down the left before the cross into Boswell's path.

Ritchie Coleman from Tenby Under 13s made his Under 14s debut, coming on for Prior, and fitted into the flow and speed of Tenby's game very well. On the rare occasion that Hundleton got an attack in, the home defence held firm, and Danny Harries was solid in goal, making the correct decisions when called upon to do so, as well as making a superb save, diving whilst parrying the ball away with first right, then left hand.

Messenger made an amazing run, beating three players before unselfishly and sensibly passing to David Jones to fire home Tenby's ninth and his hat-trick. Boswell scored number 10 after a scramble from a Robinson corner.

David Jones made it 11 two minutes from time after a fine Fleming through ball.

Special thanks to Darrel Edwards for reffing the game very well, and to the whole Tenby team for a performance that will hopefully see their bad patch well and truly behind them.

Tenby team: Danny Harries, Ben Messenger, Jamie Robinson, Damian Walters (Captain), Matthew Fleming, Clem Boswell, Matthew Jones, Luke Probert, David Jones, Ashley Prior, David Saunders, Ritchie Coleman.
