TENBY U10s 4

MONKTON U10s 1

Tenby U10s kicked off this match with a much-changed side, and were soon under heavy pressure from Monkton, who were also a different side to the team Tenby last played.

Within five minutes Monkton went ahead with a well-taken goal by Declan.

Tenby could not get into the game, so some tactical substitutions were made, with Lloyd Thomas, Ianto Griffiths and Joe Richards coming on for Carl Lewis, Rhys Houson and Danny Brown.

Tenby were now a different team. They attacked the Monkton goal time after time, but were foiled by some good saves from the visiting goalie.

During another such attack, however, Lloyd hit a purler into the corner of the net to equalise just before half-time.

In the second-half, the Tenby defence of David Thomas, Alex Harley and out-of-position Ianto Griffiths stood firm, with Lewis Hodgeson in goal cleaning up anything that got through.

The Tenby team were now in full flow and a second goal from Lloyd put them ahead 2-1.

They now attacked Monkton with everything, and with captain for the day, Billy Davies, in great form on the left, crossing the ball in from all angles, they soon got another goal, this time from striker Mickey Robins.

Just before the final whistle, Ianto popped up to score a fourth, to make the final score 4-1 to Tenby.

Thanks to Angela Nicholls for refereeing and to all the parents who supported us.

TENBY U13s 11

In a chill wind, the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored U13s returned to Solva for this league fixture.

Danny Harries, in the Tenby goal, dealt with an early Solva threat. Ashley Prior latched on to a good through ball from Ben Messenger and finished clinically for 1-0.

Using the slope well, Tenby continued to put pressure on the Solva defence, both Oliver Morgan and Jack Lawrence forcing the best from the Solva 'keeper.

A stunning individual effort from Ashley Prior registered Tenby's second, when,, from close to halfway, he collected possession and beat three defenders before driving the ball into the top corner.

Tenby grew in confidence and commenced to pepper the Solva goal. Damian Walters and Ben Messenger continued to impress with confident defending and midfield incursions.

Desperate defence became the order of the day for Solva, with Tenby much quicker in thought and deed.

Ieuan Rowell marshalled the defence, enabling Oliver to move up, and a good cross found Matthew Fleming, who cut inside and fired in for Tenby's third.

Unselfish work from David Jones was creating chance upon chance for Tenby's front men. Jamie Robinson and Damian Walters were constantly supplying quality balls, while Ashley Murdoch was also having a solid game on the Tenby left, battling for possession and chasing every ball.

His reward came with an opportunist goal following a Matthew Fleming cross and Oliver Morgan header, making the half-time score: Solva 0 Tenby 4.

Solva changed 'keeper for the second-half. Their first choice had a noteworthy half, making saves and, with the help of the woodwork, thwarting the Tenby onslaught on many occasions.

Tenby kept up the pressure, with Jack Lawrence probably Tenby's unluckiest player, twice going close in a matter of seconds.

Jamie Robinson floated in a corner, missed by everyone... except the Solva net, for Tenby's fifth.

David Jones followed up a fierce left-foot drive from Damian Walters for Tenby's sixth, a reward for his unselfish running and intelligent play.

Matthew Jones came on for Jack Lawrence who had had a fine game in the Tenby middle.

The Solva replacement 'keeper was proving a good replacement and denied Tenby with a range of saves and bravery in front of goal.

A degree of frustration crept into Tenby's play, with a succession of players firing over the bar with the Solva goal yawning. A failure to pass, with players guilty of attempting to go 'all the way' themselves, compounded the situation, with the goal supply 'drying up'.

Finally, David Jones snapped up a half-chance following sound approach play from Ben Messenger and a parried Matthew Fleming shot.

Matthew Fleming also duly gained his reward when his powerfully struck shot could not be held by the besieged Solva 'keeper.

Matthew Jones then worked the ball forward to Ashley, who struck for Tenby's ninth, and he also collected the 10th and 11th as Tenby's luck in front of goal definitely changed.

This was largely a confident and mature performance from the Tenby team, and more fortune in front of goal would have brought a mammoth scoreline. However, the propensity for Tenby players to talk inappropriately must be curbed or it may cost them dear.

Tenby team: Danny Harries, Ieuan Rowell, Ben Messenger, Oliver Morgan (capt.), Damian Walters, Matthew Fleming, Jack Lawrence, Jamie Robinson, Ashley Murdoch, David Jones, Ashley Prior, Matthew Jones.

GIRLS UNDER 14s

Only the Under 14s girls were in action this week at Pembroke Leisure Centre.

Their first game was a well fought one against Pembroke Boro. It ended up 0-0, with both sides having chances to score.

Liz Nicholas played well in goal, with Penny Young and Kelly Furlong playing in defence. Kaylie Davies and Annie Davies were a lot quieter than normal and Lauren Wright played her usual hard tackling game.

The second game was against St. Davids A side. The Tenby girls just did not compete and they were well beaten by a more determined side 2-0.

The score would have been a lot more, but for the brave goalkeeping of Lauren Wright. Let's hope the girls have learnt a lesson with this defeat!

Squad: Penny Young, Liz Nicholas, Kaylie Davies, Annie Davies, Lauren Wright, Kelly Furlong.

Thanks to John for his support with the girls team.

HUNDLETON 1

The Picnic Basket sponsored Tenby Under 12s side moved into the next round of the League Cup after beating Hundleton 6-1 at home.

This was the third time the sides had met in four weeks and the first half was tight.

Jordan Lloyd opened the scoring for Tenby after Gavin Kinsey intelligently took a quick throw-in to Guto Griffiths, who crossed the ball for Lloyd to slot home.

Griffiths himself scored next after an overlapping run by left-back Scott Helmich, who had a very good game.

Hundleton equalised and, although Sam Christopher and Bill Vaughan went close, it stayed that score at half-time.

The second half saw Christopher combine well with Vaughan to get the goal he deserved.

Griffiths scored once more, before Christopher scored twice again to complete his hat-trick.

Richard Thomas was kept on his toes in the Tenby goal and came well off his line when called to do so.

Jamie Robins and Luke Dedman aided Helmich in defence and there was another fine performance from Aaron Goldsmith, while Adam Johns covered a lot of ground in midfield.

Kurt Smith, Joe Lewis and Richard Jones replaced Lloyd, Robins and Johns, and they all made their mark in the game.

Squad: Richard Thomas, Jamie Robins, Aaron Goldsmith, Scott Helmich, Luke Dedman, Billy Vaughan (capt), Joe Lewis, Kurt Smith, Richard Jones, Guto Griffiths, Gavin Kinsey, Adam Johns, Sam Christopher, Jordan Lloyd.

Thanks to Peter Wilson for refereeing and Lloyd and Martin for running the line.

PENNAR ROBINS U16s 1

Tenby Under 16s completed the double over a spirited Pennar Robins side at the Clicketts last weekend.

The Lewis, Lewis and Co., Solicitors, sponsored Seasiders attacked from the start, rattling the Robins' woodwork twice in the first 10 minutes courtesy of Jack Christopher and captain David Day.

Although the home side had the majority of the play and had numerous chances to score, they just lacked that finishing touch. They eventually broke the deadlock, 15 minutes from the interval, when a Tom Hilling cross was blasted in from 12 yards by Perry Broadhurst.

The Seasiders continued to dominate the match during the second-half, as they did the first. Shots peppered the Robins' goal from Christopher, Day, Liam Robson and Scott Smith, but all went either wide or over the top.

However, the home side double their lead when first-half scorer, Broadhurst, turned provider with a cross which Robson volleyed left-footed past a gallant Raymond Lo.

Tenby's third goal was a gem and scored by their inspirational captain David Day. He threaded his way past five opponents before placing his shot inside the far post.

Pennar reduced the deficit following a corner, before Christopher got number four for Tenby.

Scott Smith was unlucky with a 20-yard shot which cannoned off the post.

Tenby squad: C. Iddon, T. Hilling, D. Taylor, S. Smith, S. Hilling, P. Broadhurst, D. Cope, D. Day, M. Smith, L. Robson, J. Christopher, O. Evans, D. Otton, M. Davis.
