Camrose U9s 2

Tenby U9s 3

Tenby AFC Under 9s, sponsored by Quay West, of Newquay, travelled to Camrose last weekend to play their first game for nine weeks.

Britain's inconsistent weather has seen so many games cancelled recently, but last Saturday it provided perfect conditions for football at last.

Tenby started the brighter, with Rhys Morgan, Darren Gibson and Alex Wainwright all going close early on, but unfortunately unable to find the back of the net.

Camrose looked dangerous on the break, but found a stubborn defence of Jay Rees, Rueban James, Morgan and the excellent goalkeeping of Dylan Noot.

Tenby opened their account when Morgan found Jacob Hipkiss on the right and his pass found Harri Phillips, who rifled one in from close range.

Camrose had several chances, but came up against the in-form Noot.

Just before the break, Jamie Hirst robbed his marker on the halfway line and sent Wainwright scampering down the wing.

Wainwright's cross eluded Phillips and several defenders, but found Gibson, unmarked at the back post, who fired into an empty goal.

At the beginning of the second half, Morgan struck a fierce shot which nestled in the bottom corner of the Camrose goal and Tenby thought their morning's work was done.

However, Camrose hit back with two goals of their own, the second an excellent shot from distance, and almost created a comeback similar to that of West Ham against West Brom, but Tenby's defence now strengthened with Keiran Taylor and the impressive Rhys Grigg held out until the final whistle.

Thanks to the parents for travelling and supporting the boys and Shirley for the teas.

Tenby U15s 6 Narberth U15s 1

Tenby's Under 15s' long layoff did nothing to dampen the players spirits as the whole squad put in their season's best performance.

With a top-of-the-table spot at stake, Tenby set their stall out early, with some strong tackling by George Wilkins and Niall Kinsella.

Shaun Whitfield and Rhys Jenkins combined well on the right flank and Tenby played some lovely one-touch football.

Richard Tebbutt opened the scoring with a diving head from a corner by Jimmy Bridges. Jerome Mansbridge scored twice in quick succession and Tenby were looking very comfortable.

A rare slip-up in defence let Narberth score from a corner, but this was short-lived. Lewis Roberts, in the Tenby goal, was quick off his mark and Rheinallt George and Robert Davies maturely read the game. Nathan Wilson headed the ball well and supplied Bridges and Mansbridge with plenty of through passes.

The second half saw Tenby dominate the game. Captain Wilkins added his name to the score sheet to put Tenby 4-1 up early on in the second half.

Tebbutt added another as the home side piled on the pressure. Aaron James and Norton Williams came on for Mansbridge and Jenkins, before Wilkins sealed the game with a low shot from outside the box.

This was really an excellent performance and the boys showed the large crowd just what they are capable of.

Tenby squad: Lewis Roberts, Shaun Whitfield, Rob Davies, Nathan Wilson, Rhys Jenkins, Richard Tebbutt, Niall Kinsella, George Wilkins, James Bridges, Jerome Mansbridge, Aaron James, Norton Williams, Rheinallt George.

Garden Village U14s 0

For the second season in a row, Tenby U14s made it to the semi-finals of the West Wales Cup, after battling through a tricky tie against Garden Village.

Not for the first time this season, injuries and absences threatened to be the undoing of Tenby as they took to the field with only 11 players available, some carrying knocks and others having to play out of position.

After tense opening minutes, the Seasiders settled and got their noses ahead when a floated free-kick from Lloyd Hughes found Ben Roberts on the right of the penalty area, and his neat pass across the box was smartly finished by in-form Declan Escott.

Garden Village fought back and were awarded a series of free-kicks in the Tenby half. Centre backs, Spencer Williams and Owen Coombs, repeatedly rose to the challenge and were able to clear Tenby's lines, while Adam Muskett and Luke Hartland thwarted the visitors' forays down the flanks.

Having weathered a brief storm, Tenby settled into their new formation and began to take control of the game. Declan Escott beat the 'keeper, only to see his through ball to Ben Roberts cleared off the line, while Roberts also went close with a couple more half-chances.

Lloyd Hughes then chipped a great shot across the goal after unwitting the Garden Village right back. And from the resulting corner, Declan Escott went close with a header.

The first half ended scrappily, with Garden Village getting a lot of players behind the ball, and play being interrupted by free-kicks awarded both ways, and a yellow card shown to the visitors.

Undaunted, Tenby started the second half brightly, with Dan Evans breaking down the left wing and putting in a neat cross, which was volleyed just over by Lloyd Hughes. Ben Roberts also went close again, before Declan Escott deservedly made it two-nil to the home side with an angled header from a Scott Ferney corner.

As Tenby pushed forward looking for a third, the visitors broke quickly and forced two good saves from Will Davies in the Tenby goal. But with Adam John battling superbly against a strong Garden Village midfield, Tenby kept up their momentum.

After a second yellow card for the visitors, Declan Escott floated in a free-kick from the edge of the area and Dan Evans headed Tenby into an unassailable 3-0 lead. Not bad for a 'keeper playing as an 'emergency' centre forward.

Within moments of the restart, Garden Village were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Tenby area. However, the Seasiders' backline remained resilient and cleared the ball downfield. A quick pass unleashed Scott Ferney, who turned a defender and drilled his shot past the outcoming 'keeper, making the final score 4-0.

Congratulations to Tenby for another great cup run. With a full-strength squad, the boys have every chance of going all the way to the final this year. Thanks to manager, Kev Ferney, coach, Steve Escott, all the parents and team kit sponsors, Park Road Fish and Chips, for their continued support.

TENBY U13s 4

GARDEN VILLAGE 2

After a long lay-off, the Andrew Price sponsored U13s enjoyed back to back wins in this year's West Wales Cup. Last week, Tenby achieved a 1-0 win over Cockett Colts, with Jack Parkinson scoring the only goal of an entertaining game, while this week they carried on their winning ways with a well deserved 4-2 win over Garden Village.

With only five minutes gone, Louis Thompson lobbed a great ball over the advancing 'keeper after good work from Billy and George to make it 1-0.

Jordan and Harry took care of any threat from Garden Village, with more than enough support from fullbacks Matthew and the outstanding Harri Vaughan.

Minutes later, a great cross from the tricky Frazer on the left was glanced in by Billy's head to make it 2-0.

By now, Jack and Billy were pushing the visitors back and Harry and the ever-improving Jordan pushed up field, keeping pressure on Garden Village.

After the break, it was much of the same, with the visitors having possession, but not getting any change from Tenby. Malley covered every blade of grass as he linked up with George and Louis on the right. At this time, Natty was just a spectator and, as we are all aware, he is one of the best 'keepers around for his age group. And when called upon was more than able to cope with anything that Garden Village could offer.

It was, in fact, Malley who crossed the ball for Jordan to knock the ball into the net at the back post to make it 3-0.

Malley then made way for Lewis, who slotted well into the hard-working midfield.

The boys kept the pressure on and great work from Jack and Louis allowed George to get into the box and chest the ball down and volley a shot past the stranded 'keeper to make it 4-0 with 10 minutes remaining.

Although in total control, a free-kick awarded to the visitors was knocked into the box for their giant central defender to glance the ball past the helpless Natty, much to the surprise of the good size crowd who turned up to support the boys.

Maybe that should have been the consolation goal that Garden Village deserved, but they weren't finished. With seconds remaining, a great move from their left saw the visitors catch the Tenby defence pushing forward and with a great chip just managed to beat Natty with a well-taken goal.

With the ball in the net, the referee blew for full-time with the final score 4-2. So it's into the last four of the West Wales Cup - well done boys.

With the boys now playing some great football, they can hopefully keep the momentum going and enjoy the rest of the season.

Team: Natty, Matthew, Harri, Harry, Jordan (C), Billy, Jack, Malley, Louis, George, Frazer, Lewis.
