U13s Cup
Semi-Final
Lamphey u13s 1 Tenby u13s 1
(AET Tenby 4-3 on penalties)
This encounter between the top two teams in the U13s league proved to be an exciting match at Manorbier.
After an initial period of settling in, Tenby came close following a cross by Jerome Mansbridge, but Lamphey struck back quickly and took the lead through Corey Lowndes whose free-kick eluded a defensive wall and crept in by the far post.
Tenby recovered well from this shock and Richard Tebbutt began to control the middle of the field with a brilliant display of running with the ball and distributing telling passes to his strikers Jerome Mansbridge and Ellis Morgan.
James Bridges attacked well on the left for Tenby, but as Lamphey countered, Shaun Whitfield and Marcus Read looked solid in the middle of the Tenby defence with Lewis Roberts a spectator in the Tenby goal as his forwards tried several long shots at his opposite number Billy Woods. Lamphey countered quickly and just on the stroke of half-time Tenby were relieved as Corey Lowndes, for once eluding the marking of Elliott Rivers, shot wide.
Tenby worked hard to get their usual rhythm against a powerful Lamphey midfield, and after some scares in their own penalty area when Jacob Dent cleared dramatically off the line, Jerome Mansbridge went through the middle to put Tenby back on level terms.
George Wilkins gave Richard Tebbutt the support that was needed to keep Lamphey on the back foot, and with Aaron James coming on to give extra speed at the front, Tenby went for the winner, only to be thwarted several times by a determined Lamphey defence.
Jerome Mansbridge went down in the Lamphey penalty area, but all the appeals were waved aside, and normal time finished with the scoreline still 1-1.
Extra time was an exciting affair with misses at both ends and brave goalkeeping.
Richard Tebbutt continued to orchestrate the Tenby mid-field and Luke Conbeer made some excellent runs and passes down the right side.
At the final whistle both sides had given everything in trying to win, and impressed the spectators.
The penalty shoot-out provided extra drama. With the scores level at 3-3, captain Jerome Mansbridge stepped up to drive the ball in and send Tenby through to the final.
