GLYNNEATH U16s 2 TENBY U16s 6

Tenby Under 16s, sponsored by Willow Carpentry, marched into the quarter-finals of the West Wales Youth Cup, after this excellent win over a strong Glynneath side.

The home side took the lead following a corner, but Tenby hit back straight away with two goals inside five minutes. The first was a fantastic shot from 20-odd yards by Ashley Smith and the second a neat turn and strike, inside the penalty area, from Jordan Richards.

Tenby grabbed a third before the break when the home 'keeper failed to hold on to a Will Thomas shot and Declan Carroll tapped in the loose ball.

As the Seasiders kicked off the second half, Jason Finnegan was tripped inside the centre circle and captain Curtis Hurlow's free-kick was met by Thomas, who had nipped in between two Glynneath defenders to poke the ball home.

Thomas who, along with Carroll, caused havoc with the home defence, scored Tenby's fifth when he raced onto a pass from Gareth Warlow and slipped the ball under the advancing Glynneath 'keeper.

The home side pulled a goal back and tried to stage a mini revival, but Tenby held firm, with centre halves Patrick Elliott and Hurlow dominant in the air and ably assisted by Alex Heesom and Greg Lees-Griffiths.

Tenby had the last word, however, when a mazy run from Richards was ended by a trip inside the box and Richards got up to convert from the spot.

Talycopa U13s 0

Tenby U13s 5

Tenby are Pembrokeshire's surviving representatives in the quarter-finals of the West Wales Under 13s Cup after beating Talycopa in a fine performance.

This West Wales Cup match, which had been postponed twice, turned out to be third time lucky for an eager Tenby side.

Tenby passed the ball well on a spongy surface, and played some of their best football of the season.

A high quality service to the front players by Richard Tebbutt and George Wilkins set-up attacks in which Elliott Rivers and Ellis Morgan broke through dangerously to create panic in the home defence.

Richard Tebbutt put Tenby in front with a cross shot which the home goalkeeper could not hold, and Jerome Mansbridge put the visitors further ahead with a well-placed shot.

Talycopa counter-attacked at this point, and a penalty awarded to the home team for a foul just inside the penalty area, brought an excellent save from Luke Conbeer, deputising for the injured Lewis Roberts, in the Tenby goal.

Tenby broke away quickly and exerted pressure on the Talycopa goal to force an error, which was punished by Richard Tebbutt, who shot in off the post to make the half-time score 3-0.

Tenby were soon further ahead when Jerome Mansbridge scored a fourth goal, which brought about a period of play when Tenby's repeated attacks lacked decisive finishing power, or were sometimes adjudged offside.

As the game wore on, Tenby's substitutes were introduced, and Aaron James put the finishing touches to an excellent Tenby performance with a rasping cross-shot to make the final score 5-0.

Squad: Luke Conbeer, Jacob Dent, Marcus Read, Shaun Whitfield, Nathan Wilson, Elliott Rivers, Richard Tebbutt, George Wilkins, James Bridges, Ellis Morgan, Jerome Mansbridge, Rob Davies, Aaron James, Ryan Price.
